ROBERTSON CRAIG - Key Persons
Having trained as a Chartered Accountant with a large international practice, Alan spent 12 years as a Partner in an independent practice specialising in providing taxation advice to owner-managed businesses.
Alan joined Robertson Craig as a Partner in 2001 and he has continued to provide general corporate and business tax advice but has also developed a number of specialisms: these include dealing with the taxation of professional partnerships, tax fraud investigations, share valuations and acting as an expert witness in both the Court of Session and Sheriff Court involving business valuations, partnership and corporate disputes and forensic accounting matters.
Gordon joined Robertson Craig in 1997 as his first step into the Accountancy sector. He specialised in tax from the outset and his training culminated when he became a Chartered Tax Adviser.
Gordon became a partner in 2012 and is the first member of staff to have progressed all the way from tax trainee to partner.
Gordon primarily advises owner-managed businesses and high net worth individuals on all areas of tax including business sales, management buy-outs, succession planning, large tax investigations and inheritance tax planning (including potential care home costs).
Iain joined the firm as a Partner in 1987, having trained as a Chartered Accountant with Peat Marwick, now part of KPMG.
Iain specialises in providing taxation and corporate finance advice to a wide range of clients principally in the agricultural, landed estate, renewable energy, property development and hotel and leisure sectors. Particular specialisms include business structuring, business sales and purchases, succession planning and inheritance tax planning.
John has been a Partner in Robertson Craig since 2007, having joined the firm in 2006. He is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser who has specialised in tax since 1990.
John advises on all areas of tax, in particular those affecting owner-managed businesses and the families who own them. This includes advising on tax-efficient business structures, succession planning, management buy-outs, employee share participation, business sales and purchases and inheritance tax planning.
John joined Robertson Craig from EY in Glasgow, where he worked for 11 years, having earlier spent 8 years at Grant Thornton in Glasgow where he completed his professional qualifications.

Stewart Merry is a qualified Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser who joined Robertson Craig in 1997 having trained and worked in large international accounting practices for 12 years prior to then.
Stewart is the firm's Technical and Training Partner and provides tax advice to owner-managed businesses including assistance with acquisitions, disposals and employee incentives. The advice covers both personal and corporate tax as well as VAT, capital gains tax and inheritance tax.
