I am the editorial director for the humanities and social sciences at Princeton University Press, and also acquire and commission books in the history of science and knowledge. This list encompasses the histories of the physical and natural sciences, technology, and medicine, while also including histories of the humanities and social sciences, the history of the book, and related intellectual and cultural histories. I acquire trade and scholarly books in sociology and urban studies. The books on my list explore a wide range of topics, from work-family issues and the criminal justice system to urban development and the impact of technology on our lives. I acquire field guides and a broad range of nature reference titles, and I also work on a select number of fully interactive apps. For the field guide program, I am particularly interested in projects covering the Americas, but the list is also rich in titles treating the birds or other wildlife of other regions, or animal families in a global context, such as José R. Castelló's Canids of the World. Many of the bird guides are indispensable resources for birders and conservation professionals-books such as Birds of Peru (by Thomas S. Schulenberg, Douglas F. Stotz, Daniel F. Lane, John P. O'Neill and Theodore A. Parker III), Birds of Central America (by Andrew C. Vallely and Dale Dyer), and Birds of New Guinea (by Thane K. Pratt and Bruce M. Beehler), to name but three.
Larger nature reference books play an important role in the list as a whole, and I will consider a wide range of potential projects, as long as they are original in concept and execution. Titles such as Joseph S. Wilson and J. Messinger Carril's The Bees in Your Backyard, Katrina van Grouw's Unnatural Selection, and Jillian Cowles's Amazing Arachnids are excellent examples of the kind of references I like to publish.
