Ian Hay

An experienced and respected senior leader with over 40 years' experience mostly in the rail sector. Ian has a proven track record of delivery of challenging and complex business expectations across a number of leadership roles with high profile industry organisations notably Atkins and Aecom. He is an engaging leader and has developed his delivery focused career via a clear, calm and structured approach to project and business challenges. With extensive industry contacts Ian has succeeded in developing effective relationships by fully understanding the needs and expectations of a wide array of clients, suppliers and stakeholders. Ian is a good listener who promotes a fair and measured approach to risk management and problem solving based on experience and this has led to a demonstratable record of achievement. Ian has had unique experience in environments of change through company acquisitions and as Aecom head of the UK and Europe business he led the doubling of the rail delivery expertise and resources from 300 FTE's to 600 FTE's in 2 years, establishing Aecom as a leader in the multi-disciplinary rail consultancy market. While at Atkins as Rail Operations Director Ian introduced business processes including strengthening the extensive supply chain and Global Design resource centres that drove consistency resulting in Revenue and Profit expectations being exceeded. A Chartered Engineer, from a major programme perspective he has been involved at all stages of delivery on most major rail projects over many years such as Crossrail, HS2, Wessex Capacity Enhancement, West Coast Route Modernisation, S&C Alliance and Borders Railway. Valuing the benefits of collaboration and good communication Ian is keen to pass on his knowledge and experience to the next generation.

Simon Blanchflower

Simon is a proven leader at Board/ Senior Executive level and able to provide strategic direction to organisations. He has a particular skill in leading complex, major infrastructure programmes at all stages of programme development and delivery and making sure that customer/stakeholder interests are fully considered. Most recently Simon demonstrated his capabilities as CEO of the East West Rail Company - an arm's length body of government set up to accelerate the delivery of the new Oxford to Cambridge route. He is currently the Deputy Chair of the London Legacy Development Corporation Board and has recently been appointed as a Non-Executive Director of the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation. In both these roles there is an emphasis on creating sustainable, inclusive communities where people can thrive. Simon combines a personal and corporate passion for environmental and societal matters, with a focus on carbon reduction, nature recovery and delivering social value. Simon has also recently become a Non-Executive Director of the PWI - The Institution for Rail Infrastructure Engineering. With such extensive experience at senior level Simon recognises, and is passionate about, SME and micro-enterprise roles in the future performance of the UK's railways. Keen to share his wealth of insight and expertise in positioning businesses for best outcomes, Simon embraces these diverse challenges with equal spirit and accessibility.
