AVIA || N.O.I.A. is a design studio founded in 2020 by computational designer & biologist Alexiou Dota based in Greece. Standing at the crossover between art, science and technology the main focus is generative algorithmic design methods. The point of departure is mainly the processes of digital morphogenesis used to generate structures as an abstraction of nature's generative processes and strategies. Biological forms and their behavior emerge from processes. Engaging these processes, to a place of number, algorithm and pattern, the very roots of order, the nature of form is trapped in the invisible realm of code. This generative logic leads to codified designs. Emerging structures that seem to occupy the middle zone between discreteness and infinity, instead of plain verbatim copies of natural form, are structures that possess properties of living systems, rhythms and connection.
