Dr. Betina Hsieh

Dr. Betina Hsieh is an associate professor of secondary teacher education at California State University, Long Beach's College of Education. Her teacher education work is informed by 10 years of urban middle school classroom experience, K-12 literacy coaching and work as co-director of the Bay Area Writing Project. Her research focuses on: teacher identity, critical (digital) literacies in teacher education, social media use in teaching and teacher education, navigating heritage language loss and reclamation, and experiences of teachers and teacher educators of color, with a specific emphasis on Asian American teachers. Her recent publications include articles in Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education, English Teaching: Practice and Critique, Literacy Research and Instruction, Journal of Diversity in Higher Education, the Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, Educational Leade rship and the Journal of Teacher Education. She recently published The Racialized Experiences of Asian American Teachers in the US (Routledge) with Dr. Jung Kim.
