Drive By Wire (DBW) is a modern method of controlling a vehicles engine by using electrical and electro-mechanical systems to control the amount of air entering the engine and creating the desired combustion. The system utilises an electrical accelerator pedal which is connected to a control unit which performs many calculations a second and then electronically controls a mechanical throttle body. This allows for greater control over the power delivery, fuel economy and safety when tuning the engine beyond factory capabilities.
