Graduated as an electronics engineer, and worked for a year supporting CAD software. However, I wanted to do something more and coding seemed pretty challenging. I taught myself how to code in my spare time and found a passion for it. Six months later I had my first job as a software engineer at one of the consulting giants where I spent just over two years. It was here where I really honed my skills and found that hunger to be constantly growing in this area and been writing amazing code ever since.

I've always had a curiosity and love for tech. I'm told that from 2 years old I would walk into somewhere new and immediately start using the new VHS player the owners hadn't quite figured out yet. I've since learned to focus that energy into figuring out exactly how software works; helping the team identify why something isn't working as expected and suggest how we can improve the experience to deliver maximum value, with minimum frustration to the users.

I'm a product person with a background in leading teams to deliver digital stuff. Places I've worked so far include HSBC and First Direct banks, Sky, Now TV, The Telegraph and Virgin Media; helping them establish strong, deliverable product backlogs and drive change efficiently. For as long as I can remember, I've always been curious to find out how things work - from the inside - and then telling others about what I've learnt. As a result, I love digging deeply into technical problems, solving them using a variety of programming languages (preferably Rust and WebAssembly) then training others about what I've learnt. I started using Desktop Linux when I was in 6th-form, but I managed to avoid writing software until I was in university. After university, I was working on some open-source chat projects, and someone told me I could do it full-time. A decade later, I've moved around the industry a bit, but still like to contribute back to the open source community when I get the chance.
