Katherine Leibowitz - Founder

For almost 30 years, clients have relied on Katherine for her practical and incisive contracts and counseling in technology and life sciences. Katherine began her legal career as a technology lawyer in Northern Virginia at Hogan Lovells, a Top 10 global law firm. During the Dot Com boom, Katherine quickly established herself as the "go-to person" for Internet, web site and ecommerce contracts and counseling. Katherine was the first lawyer in the office to have desktop access to the Internet (after submitting a request on paper). Moving to Hogan Lovells' Philadelphia office opened the door to life sciences and medical technology opportunities. There, Katherine expanded her knowledge to FDA regulatory, HIPAA, human subject protection, fraud and abuse, reimbursement, international data protection and litigation risk management. She learned (and in many cases, spearheaded the development of) all the ins and outs of drafting clinical trial contracts and counseling clients in matters relating to clinical trials operations. In 2013, she and her husband, Steve, decided to start their own firm dedicated to making life sciences contracting easier and more accessible for small to middle-sized companies and institutions. A seasoned regulatory and technology transactional lawyer, Katherine provides a full range of services from templates tailored to her clients' needs to markups of contracts prepared by the other side, to complex negotiations and sophisticated counseling. Katherine is passionate about helping her clients save lives and improve patient health - and is determined to make a big impact by empowering life sciences companies and institutions.

Kelli Kotzen

Kelli brings more than 15 years of creative problem solving and professional experience to Leibowitz Law. She spent 10 years as a transactional paralegal, most recently at Endo Pharmaceuticals and Teva Pharmaceuticals where she supported global operations, primarily in R&D, manufacturing, IT and business transactions. Shortly before the pandemic hit, Kelli joined EDA Contractors as its first human resources department manager. Kelli worked closely with the safety director to quickly formulate and implement COVID-19 policies and processes (from scratch) to support staff and to streamline operations into what eventually became the new normal. At EDA, Kelli splits her time between HR and legal, where she is a senior paralegal supporting indemnity requests and contract review. Kelli also manages day to day human resources operations, including hiring and onboarding personnel based on a process that she created and implemented to improve inter-departmental communications. At Leibowitz Law, Kelli provides vision and marketing support, including drafting, designing and review of web site content and marketing materials, interfacing with outside vendors and serving as a key sounding board for law firm operations, staff relations, hiring and strategic planning. She also drafts and reviews contract in the clinical trials and IT spaces. Kelli brings a fresh perspective to solving operational challenges and supporting the firm's mission to empower life sciences.

Michele Moss

Shortly after Michele retired as partner in a major Canadian law firm after 40 years of practice, Michele and Katherine were lucky enough to meet at a women's conference at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, their law school alma mater. They quickly developed a bond together, and Michele decided to join Leibowitz Law as Of Counsel and to turn her drafting and negotiating skills to the area of life sciences. Michele has always enjoyed learning new areas during her legal career, from arbitration to mergers and acquisitions, from bank lending to securitizations, from cross-border leasing to structured finance and CDOs. So it was with enthusiasm that she took up the opportunity in 2016 to plunge into the life sciences with Katherine, and it has been a very rewarding experience for both of them. At Leibowitz Law, Michele focuses on clinical trials. Working with Katherine, Michele has developed particular expertise in the complex drafting of indemnification and subject injury provisions. Michele's cross-border practice working on transactions in multiple jurisdictions during her fifteen years in the Paris office of Shearman & Sterling and during her seven years as the partner in charge of financial services at the New York office of the Canadian law firm, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt has given her very useful skills in analyzing and implementing agreements for international clinical studies. experience Michele was the head of the Financial Services Practice Group in the New York office of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt, a major Canadian law firm where her experience covered a wide spectrum of both domestic and cross-border financing transactions. Prior to joining Osler, Michele practiced for more than two decades at Shearman & Sterling in both their New York and Paris offices, and at a boutique securitization and structured finance firm. While practicing, Michele also held a position for several years as Lecturer in Law at the University of Virginia Law School and in France, taught courses on law and business at two prestigious French business schools. Michele is member of the New York Bar and an inactive member of the Bars in Pennsylvania, D.C. and Paris, France (Avocat au Barreau de Paris).

Steve Leibowitz - Founder

With more than 40 years of legal and business experience, Steve puts a unique background to work for clients. As General Counsel and subsequently President of Aisenstein & Gordon, Inc., a mid-sized distributor and importer of consumer products, he was responsible for strategic planning and overseeing all operating departments. Under his leadership, the company increased sales and profits, expanded its market area, established new product lines, and introduced innovative technology and logistical operations. Steve brings extensive, hands-on experience to both the operational and legal challenges of managing a modern business, including corporate governance, tax planning, insurance, technology onboarding, organizational set-up, shareholder negotiations, contract negotiations, human resources and products distribution. At Leibowitz Law, Steve manages all firm operations and advises clients on a variety of issues, including insurance, ethics, corporate structure, human resources and negotiations strategy.
