His technical experience covers a broad range of projects, geological settings and commodities. These include coal, iron sands, gold, iron ore and nickel laterite mines and projects in Australia, South Africa, Indonesia, New Zealand, USA and South America, Russia and Iran. Lyon is an expert user of a range of modelling software packages and is a Competent Person for the purposes of JORC resource estimation and reporting.

Due to his extensive safety management experience and diligence, no LTI's have ever occurred under his supervision.
