In his retirement from construction, my Grandfather was the "go to" person for fine furniture and grandfather clocks. It was a very big deal where I grew up to have a grandfather clock made by Ray Stachler. He made everything from furniture, hand carved items, to wood cabs for people restoring antique cars. I worked with him every summer when I was out of school till I was old enough to work for my Dad. He taught me how to use all of the tools to mill rough lumber down, turning things on a lathe, and how to hand carve things... When I got old enough, I went to work with my Dad every summer working construction. He had a small company, so we usually only built 1 house a summer, but we did many small jobs as well.
