Andrew Riddle

Andrew Riddle is an experienced Consultant within the field of Assisted Reproduction, and is our Person Responsible. After initially working in general practice, Andrew has worked in infertility since 1984. He was responsible for setting up the Victoria Wing in 1994, in partnership with Nuffield Health. Mr Riddle has extensive experience within the NHS and is the Senior Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Frimley Park Hospital NHS Trust. Within the NHS he offers through his team a full investigation service for fertility patients. He maintains an interest in monitoring multiple pregnancies occurring from fertility treatment, with CARE Woking continuing to maintain our excellent success rates and low multiple birth rate.

Caroline McHugh is the Clinic Director of CARE Manchester and CARE Liverpool. Caroline has worked in the Health and Care industry for over 30 years in a variety of senior roles both within the UK and abroad. Before joining CARE in February 2019, Caroline established and ran specialist eye hospitals.She also spent seven years in a none-exec role on the Board of a national Health and Social Care Charity, where she was also Chair of the Quality and Standards Committee.

David Walker

David Walker is the Medical Director at CARE Fertility Bath. He has been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Bath since 1996. He qualified in Birmingham in 1985, and obtained a Doctorate of Medicine from Warwick University during a two-year research post in Reproductive Medicine at Coventry. David has published many papers on embryo and blastocyst culture and established a service for men with obstructive azoospermia. He retains a keen interest in obstetrics, following through the successful outcomes of treatments. David is Clinical Director of Gynaecology at the Royal United Hospital and Chair of the Surgical Division.

Donna Corah is the Clinic Director of CARE Nottingham. Donna is an accomplished senior manager with over 19 years in both private and public sectors across Healthcare, Legal and NPO. She has sat on boards as a Trustee for multiple Children's charities and is a founding member of the Woman's Awards Membership group. Donna has trained in specialities such as Mental Health Law, Psychology, Counselling and is currently in the final stages of completing an MBA at Nottingham Trent University. "I've always been passionate about helping patients and providing the best care. It's such a privilege to be part of CARE and working with all of my colleagues that share the same passion; it's incredibly humbling and rewarding."

Dr Alison Richardson is a Consultant and RCOG accredited Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery. She graduated from the University of Bristol in 2005 and completed her training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the Southwest before completing her subspecialty training in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery in Leeds at the end of 2019. Ally then spent 18 months working as a Consultant in Leicester before joining CARE in September 2021. She is delighted to be working in an organisation that prioritises quality care of those seeking fertility advice and treatment.

Dr Amy Barrie

Dr Amy Barrie is the Laboratory Manager at CARE Fertility Chester and CARE Fertility Liverpool, and is also the HFEA's Person Responsible for both clinic s. Amy is a Consultant Clinical Scientist, being one of a handful in the country that are Fellows of the Royal College of Pathologists. Amy studied Physiology at the University of Manchester, followed by a Master's degree in Prenatal Genetics and Fetal Medicine at University College London. Amy was awarded a PhD in 2017 entitled ‘Time-lapse Systems: Incubation and Annotation'. Amy has over 10 years' experience within Clinical Embryology and has a special interest in time-lapse technology used throughout the CARE Fertility Group laboratories. Amy has published a number of papers and book chapters on this topic and remains involved in research in this area, such as her recent research paper, ‘Can we optimise the time that we perform the fertilisation check in lab? Lessons learnt from time-lapse incubation', which won an award at the Association of Reproductive and Clinical Scientists' Fertility 2021 conference. Amy also takes a keen interest in the training of future embryologists by teaching on the Scientific Training Programme and assessing for the National School of Healthcare Science. In addition to ensuring compliance with our regulators (the HFEA) requirements and the safe and effective running of the CARE Fertility Chester and Liverpool laborator ies, Amy is dedicated to ensuring the standard of care provided to all patients is of the highest possible standard.

Dr Catherine Pretty

Dr Catherine Pretty is the Laboratory Manager at CARE Fertility Woking. She has been an embryologist for over twenty years, and brings her enthusiasm and expertise to CARE having previously worked in IVF clinics around the world. Catherine has a special interest in the implantation of the embryo, having been awarded a PhD from the University of Nottingham and published several papers on this subject. She is passionate about science communication and particularly enjoys training future embryologists. Catherine is dedicated to running our embryology laboratory, and takes pride in our excellent success rates. She, along with the rest of the embryology team are always looking to improve the service that we offer to make sure that your embryos are in the best care possible.

Dr David W Polson

Dr David Polson is one of CARE Manchester's Consultant Gynaecologists. He has over 30 years' experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and has a special interest in the management and investigation of Subfertility, and couples experiencing recurrent pregnancy loss. He qualified from St Mary's Hospital, London University in 1980 and spent the first few years of his career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology working in London. During this time, Dr Polson held a two-year post in Reproductive Endocrinology and pioneered the use of ultrasound in the recognition of Polycystic Ovaries. He developed low dose gonadotrophin therapy for the treatment of women with PCOS, to help them conceive and he still has a clock from 1985 - a gift from the first couple to have a baby with this treatment. This work provided the impetus for Dr Polson to pursue a special interest in the management of Subfertility. In 1988, he spent 18 months as Clinical Fellow in the Monash IVF Unit, Melbourne working alongside some of the clinical and scientific pioneers of IVF. Upon his return to Manchester, he obtained a Consultant post in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Salford Royal Hospital where he worked for 21 years. He established the Early Pregnancy unit and Fertility Clinic at Salford Royal, and with this came his interest in the investigation and management of couples experiencing recurrent pregnancy loss. Dr Polson joined Manchester Fertility in 1990, held a weekly IVF clinic, and continued his involvement in egg collections and embryo transfers. More recently with the increased demand for oocyte donation, he has been actively involved with the provision of care for couples with low ovarian reserve.

I graduated from the Medical School of the University of Crete and I completed my specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the University Hospital of Heraklion in Greece. Soon after starting my career as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, I was prompted by my special interest in human reproduction and I moved in the UK where I completed a clinical research fellowship in reproductive medicine. I joined CARE in 2018 bringing with me over 10 years of experience in the field. I have obtained the British Fertility Society certification in Pelvic Ultrasound and Embryo Transfer. I am a member of the British Fertility Society (BFS) and European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE).

Dr Kate O'Brien is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at our clinics in Bath and Bristol but also works at the Royal United Hospital, Bath. Since 2005, Kate has specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with particular interest in Acute Gynaecology, Early Pregnancy and Reproductive Medicine. Kate has extensive hysteroscopic and laparoscopic training and has completed a diploma from the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health. Kate prides herself in treating patients holistically, in listening to them to ascertain their needs and in individualising care. Kate has a keen interest in obstetrics and builds on successful treatment by providing personalised antenatal care to her patients. Kate has specialist experience in ultrasound scanning and has led the regional postgraduate training scheme for the last 6 years. She has published many journal articles and book chapters. Kate is an active member of the British Fertility Society and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and attends international conferences to challenge herself to continually develop her expertise. Kate is passionate about the outdoors. She enjoys walking, cycling and being by the sea. She also loves socialising and dancing.
