Andy Thomas

As vice-president, Precertification Education, Andy is responsible for the strategic direction and operational oversight of CPA Canada's precertification education and assessment. With more than 30 years of experience in professional examinations, he provides leadership and guidance to CPA Canada's education and certification staff, volunteers and contractors. Altogether, the team shapes the future of the accounting profession by developing leading-edge educational programs and examinations. In his role, Andy is also a member of the Professional Education Management Committee and the Certification 2.0 Steering Committee, which addresses the implementation of the CPA profession's reimagined Competency Map, as well as the redesign and redevelopment of the Professional Education Program (PEP). Previously, Andy was director, Professional Program Examinations at CPA Canada. During this time, he oversaw all activities associated with the PEP and Preparatory Education Program, including content creation, delivery, assessment and student feedback. Before joining CPA Canada, Andy was director, Corporate Services at Banff Mineral Springs Hospital, where he managed all administrative and financial aspects of the business. He also spent eight years at Deloitte working on accounting and auditing engagements for multinational clients before becoming a partner and owner of Thomas & Fleck. There, he ran the professional public chartered accountancy firm until the partnership was sold in 2003. Ben Sander

Ben joined the CPA Canada Board of Directors in September 2023. He was employed by the Grande Prairie, Alberta office of Campbell Sharp, a national chartered accounting firm, as a chartered accountant articling student until he joined the firm in 1981 and was admitted to partnership in 1987. He has the distinction of having served 40 years as a senior partner in a medium-sized regional public practice, with eight partners and three offices in Northern British Columbia and Alberta. Ben served for eight years on what is now CPA Insurance Plans West, helping to establish governance procedures and a formal investment policy. Throughout his career, Ben served on a variety of boards in the community, including the BC Seniors Games, the BC Winter Games, Northern BC Winter Games, and the Northern Health Authority. In 2016, he served five years on the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia's Board of Directors, and then an additional six years on the Board of Chartered Professional Accountants British Columbia (CPABC). In September 2019, Ben was elected as Board Chair of CPABC. During his tenure, he also served on the Council of Chairs, participated in numerous committees, and was a member of the Western Regional Forum. In 2022, he received the distinction of the Queen's 70th Platinum Jubilee Medal in Community Service. Ben retired in January 2023, but continues to devote his time to his community service endeavors.

Beth Wilson

Beth is the chair of the CPA Canada Board of Directors, joining the board in September 2021. Beth was previously the chief executive officer at Dentons Canada and a member of the global leadership team, serving on the global board and global management committee. Prior to that, Beth served as managing partner at KPMG in the Greater Toronto area, where she led the largest business unit in Canada. Beth served as a member of KPMG's Management Committee in various leadership positions, including Canadian managing partner, Community Leadership, and Canadian managing partner, Regions and Enterprise, with responsibility for 24 regional offices across Canada, and chief human resources officer. She has also held various global leadership roles. Beth currently serves as a board director for the following organizations: Thomson Reuters, Power Corporation, IGM Financial, Traferox Technologies Inc., Hospital for SickKids and Woodgreen Foundation. Beth is widely known and respected in the Canadian business community and is an accomplished and dedicated community leader. Brenda Doig

As vice-president, Legal, Risk and Compliance, Brenda acts as a strategic advisor for CPA Canada, delivering expert business-oriented legal advice and counsel. She also oversees the strategic direction, development, and execution of legal, risk management and compliance across the organization. Prior to joining CPA Canada, Brenda practised law at Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD) from 2013-2021. During her tenure with TD, she held several roles, with responsibilities including the negotiation of high-risk global contracts, leading various process improvement, knowledge management and risk mitigation initiatives, as well as providing legal and risk management advice and support to the general counsel and senior vice-president, Legal (Canada). Most recently, Brenda acted as the practice lead for Global External Counsel Management and Risk, Legal Brenda previously practiced at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario where she served as lead counsel in a variety of proceedings before the College Discipline Committee as well as in Divisional and Superior Court. During this time, she also negotiated contracts, drafted bylaws, policies, and procedures, and provided legal support to the College's committees and council. Cathy Russell

Cathy joined the CPA Canada Board of Directors in September 2020. She is a partner of PwC Canada, based in the Toronto office with over 30 years of experience with the firm. Cathy is currently the National SDC Operations Leader for PwC Canada, overseeing the use of service delivery centres both globally and in Canada. In addition, she is a board member of PwC's multi-territory delivery centre located in Kolkata, India. As an Assurance practice partner, Cathy has extensive experience serving both public and private companies in a wide range of industries. Darrell Jones

Darrell is the vice-chair of the CPA Canada Board of Directors, joining the board in September 2021. He is a certified director specializing in linking strategy to organizational objectives that help enable increased client satisfaction, growth, and profitability. Darrell is a retired senior executive that now serves as a corporate director after working forty-one years in the critical infrastructure (utilities and financial services) and advisory services industries. Darrell's most current role was that of Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Canadian Western Bank. Prior to that, he served in public practice as a Partner in KPMG's Advisory Services practice working with clients to advance and mature their technology and cyber security capabilities. For the last twenty-three years, Darrell has worked with public, private and not-for-profit boards and industry associations, earning his Certified Director (ICD.D) designation along the way. Joan M. Hertz

Joan joined the CPA Canada Board of Directors in September 2018. She has more than 25 years' experience in board and stakeholder relations and has been a practising lawyer and strategic consultant with an expertise in governance. Joan is the vice-president, External Affairs and Corporate Counsel at NorQuest College. She has extensive board involvement and currently serves as chair of the Growth and Innovation Committee, and member of the Governance Committee at Covenant Health (2016-present) and as a member of the Governance Committee at the Edmonton International Airport (2016-present). Joan was appointed as the board chair of ATB Financial, effective January 1, 2019, and previously served as chair of the organization's Governance and Conduct Review Committee (2008-2018). Karen Gosse

(TSX/NYSE: FTS), a well-diversified leader in the North American regulated electric and gas utility industry, serving utility customers in five Canadian provinces, nine U.S. states and three Caribbean countries. Since joining Fortis in 2004, Karen has held a range of positions including Vice-President Finance and Chief Financial Officer of its former subsidiary, Fortis Properties Corporation. Kevin Regan

Before joining CPA Canada, Lisa served as chief technical officer at the Value Reporting Foundation and one of its pre-merger entities, the International Integrated Reporting Council. Over the span of a decade, Lisa contributed to the development of the International Integrated Reporting Framework and subsequently oversaw its revision and preparation of accompanying implementation guidance. Within this capacity, she also supported the International Accounting Standards Board as a member of its Management Commentary Consultative Group and the International Sustainability Standards Board as a member of the International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation's Technical Readiness Working Group. Her earlier role as technical director of the Global Reporting Initiative rounds out her standard-setting and framework development background. Rosemary McGuire

She engages with Canadian and international stakeholders, such as policymakers, standards setters, regulators, and global accountancy bodies, on issues impacting the public interest. Stephenie Fox

Stephenie started with Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) on April 1, 2015, and is responsible for the independent standard-setting board staff support who work to develop financial reporting and assurance standards for Canada. Canada has long been known both for the quality of its auditing and accounting standards and for the independent, objective and transparent structures responsible for developing the standards and guidance used in this country. Stephenie has over 20 years of experience in independent standard setting and establishing and sustaining relationships with national and international standard-setting bodies. Prior to joining CPA Canada, she was technical director at the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board - an independent standard-setting board of the International Federation of Accountants. Stephenie was previously a senior reviewer at the Canadian Public Accountability Board and also spent 12 years as a principal working with the Canadian Institute of Charted Accountants. Susan Harley

Tracy Chehab

Tracy has over 20 years of experience in auditing public and private companies throughout Canada and abroad in multiple industries such as transportation, retail, aerospace, manufacturing and technology. She has experience auditing the financial statements of complex public clients that report in U.S. GAAP and IFRS in Canada and cross-border in the U.S. Tracy's experience includes six years of inspection and thought leadership experience with the Canadian Public Accountability Board (CPAB).
