Daryl L. Peterson

Daryl L. Peterson is the first managing director of the University of Notre Dame's Engineering Innovation Hub (EIH). He oversees the coordination and operational management of the EIH's technology, programs, and outreach in support of its dual mission of academic and industry engagement. Prior to joining Notre Dame in January 2021, Peterson earned more than 20 years of manufacturing experience at Deere & Co. He led programs for Deere's global product lines, managing cross-functional teams charged with improving business processes and reducing product complexity. He led the creation of Deere's Enterprise Digital Capability Lab, aimed at developing engineers as they worked with new technologies in artificial intelligence, additive manufacturing, collaborative robotics, autonomous robotics, and lightweight materials. He also created a Manufacturing Leadership program to further develop the next generation of manufacturing leaders.

Dr. Nancy Michael

Biography Since December of 2014, Dr. Nancy Michael has served as the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Neuroscience and Behavior major in the College of Science at the University of Notre Dame. Dr. Michael holds concurrent appointments in the Psychology Department and Center for Social Concerns and is a faculty fellow with the Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence, Institute for Educational Initiatives, Center for Social Concerns and Center for Broader Impacts. In partnership with community organizations, Dr. Michael has earned numerous grants to develop and implement NEAR (neuroscience, epigenetics, adverse childhood experiences, resilience) science approaches that aim to give life to the knowledge base of neuroscience to foster healthy development for all individuals and communities. Using a community-capacity building model, and working in partnership with community organizations, Michael and her students develop population specific NEAR-based strategies to support organizational and community efforts in becoming trauma-informed. The ultimate goal of this work is to create self-healing communities; communities in which all people are able to nurture personal and community well-being through the neuroscience of human resilience. Dr. Michael's dedication to excellence, educational innovation and commitment to community wellness have earned her numerous teaching, advising, community and national awards, as well as the distinct honor of a named professorship.

John Henry

Biography John Henry's professional experience spans a decade of launching startups and consulting for private companies and government organizations. Henry's entrepreneurial experience focuses on the web-based startups. He co-founded his first company, RateMyStudyAbroad.com, in 2006 and sold it to GoAbroad in 2013. He also founded an online retail business (Shipping Entertainment) and an online learning platform (CODEinCLASS). Prior to his current position, Henry worked as Manager of Customer Success for a venture-backed web startup in South Bend, Vennli, that was founded by ND professor, Joe Urbany. Henry's consulting experience served both private and government clients. His consulting experience at private companies centers on new-product development and launch for companies such as Zimmer-Biomet and The Corporate Executive Board. His government consulting work focused on developing new intellectual property for the Navy while working at Booz Allen Hamilton. Henry's creativity and passion for entrepreneurship has resulted in multiple grants and awards, including Elevate's High Performance Startup Grant, winner of Booz Allen's Ideas Festival, two-time semi-finalist for Notre Dame's McCloskey competition. He also supported international entrepreneurs by establishing the Notre Dame Haitian Entrepreneur Business Plan Competition. Education John Henry received an M.B.A. from the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame and a B.A. from Davidson College in North Carolina.

Mary Scott

Mary has over 20 years of strategy, finance and innovation experience. She currently leads the design and implementation of custom programming for corporate leaders aiming to create innovation infrastructure within their organizations and foster problem-solving skills within their teams. She believes the true power of innovation lies in its potential to create positive change for individuals, organizations and society. Mary is known for creating values-driven experiences across a variety of industries that produce solutions to tough business challenges. She works diligently to understand global, multi-dimensional challenges, their origins and the dynamics driving friction, then transparently aligns strategy with stakeholders. She has held a variety of roles at the University including financial planning & analysis for the $1 billion unrestricted operating budget. Adept at cultivating relationships across institutional boundaries and with external partners, she led many cross-university efforts and worked with all levels of government to create new educational programs focused on saving for college and household financial security. She also led the launch and development of award-winning ThinkND, a digital learning platform with on-demand content that reaches over 250,000 global participants. Prior to joining the Notre Dame administration, Mary was a consultant for Protiviti in Chicago. In addition to working for Notre Dame, she's also a graduate, holding a bachelor's degree in finance and computer applications (technology consulting).

Matt Leevy

Matt is currently an Associate Professor of the Practice within the IDEA Center at the University of Notre Dame and serves as the Director of the Innovation Lab (innovationlab.nd.edu). This 5000 sqft space integrates talented industrial and graphic designers with world-class prototyping equipment to create products, build businesses, and launch dreams. Over his 15-year career at ND, Matt's lab has generated dozens of peer-reviewed manuscripts and been awarded utility six utility patents that have served as cornerstones for the creation of two successful small-business startups that are alive and well today: In Vivo Concepts LLC (1st Source Award, 2014, exiting December 2023), and Irish Woodworks LLC (exited December 2021). Matt is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (B.S. Bioengineering) and Washington University in Saint Louis (Ph.D. Biophysics), and he is also a retired Army Reserve Captain with 22 years of total service. Taken together, Matt operates a vibrant, collaborative, and entrepreneurial lab space, with broad experience in object design and fabrication, biomedical imaging technologies, and business creation.

Matt Alverson is a Partner at the global design and business innovation consultancy, IA Collaborative. For more than 20 years, he's helped executives better understand their future consumer, prototype new digital business models, and accelerate organizational transformation. Matt's clients include business heads at digital natives (Airbnb, Apple, Google, Amazon), innovation-leaders at consumer brands (Nike, Samsung, Audi), and digital executives in regulated industries (Goldman Sachs, Charles Schwab, Medtronic, MD Anderson). Matt is also an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business. For more than 12 years his EMBA course has delivered experiential learning in the form of new offering design for Fortune 100 companies. Samuel Miller

Sam Miller is the Director of Undergraduate Studies for Innovation & Entrepreneurship and an Associate Teaching Professor at the University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business, teaching course work in entrepreneurship and strategic foresight at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Mendoza is a leader in developing and delivering course work in foresight as a lens for emerging opportunities and disruptive innovation. Since 2009, Professor Miller has been a member of the team that developed and launched this pioneering program. From 2014-2017, Sam served as Director of the Gigot Center for Entrepreneurship in the Mendoza College leading a team in the education and advocacy of entrepreneurship inside and outside of the classroom. In this role, he worked with a broad range of startups during the discovery and validation stages of the venture creation process. Sam is founder and president of Provoyant Corporation, a strategic foresight and innovation consultancy that provides training and exploratory research for companies and organizations seeking to understand and act upon emerging opportunities. Foresight clients have included organizations such as Microsoft Corporation, ExxonMobil, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Dairy Management Inc., the Indiana Fiscal Policy Institute, and The Philippine Government. In his 25-year career, he has held strategic management roles in the Fortune 100 and has been a successful entrepreneur. Before joining the Mendoza faculty, Sam served as Vice President of Strategy for JFNew (now Cardno), a leading ecological consulting firm. Prior to that, Sam owned and managed two regional manufacturing businesses, building and successfully exiting each. Sam holds a Master of Science in Engineering from Northwestern University, an MBA from the University of Michigan, and a BA in Economics from the University of Illinois. In 2009, Sam was recognized as one of "21 People Who Will Change Business" by BusinessWeek. In 2015, Sam was recognized as one of the Top 100 Professors of Entrepreneurship around the globe by Hot Topics. He is a member of the Association of Professional Futurists and World Future Studies Federation and has been a frequent speaker on sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship.

Sandra Collins

Sandra Collins has a Ph.D. in social psychology and specializes in persuasion, negotiation, personal growth and well-being. She recently completed a three-year appointment in the Psychology Department at Hanover College. She came to Hanover from the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame, where she taught business communication classes for over twenty years. She is a leadership coach, trained through Georgetown University's Center for Transformational Leadership. Her publications include Communication in a Virtual Organization (Thompson South-Western, 2003), Managing Conflict and Workplace Relationships (Thompson South-Western, 2007), Listening and Responding (Thompson South-Western, 2005), and Persuasion (Thompson South-Western, 2009). Outside of academics, she has worked as a licensed financial services broker and as a purchasing agent. She currently owns and operates Six Chicks Scratch Kitchen, a small breakfast and lunch restaurant in South Haven, Michigan.

Timothy Bohling

Biography Tim Bohling is Professor of Marketing at University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business. Tim has also served as the Chief Marketing and Graduate Enrollment Officer at Mendoza College of Business. Prior to joining University of Notre Dame, Tim served as Marketing Professor of Practice and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University. Professor Bohling is an accomplished global business leader, teacher, and scholar, having held several Vice President and C-Suite positions leading marketing transformation and entrepreneurial business building at IBM, HCL Technologies, Stratasys, University of Notre Dame, and Georgia State University while concurrently publishing several research papers in top scholarly journals. He is the founder of a brand strategy and digital marketing agency dedicated to elevating the growth and greatness of his clients. Bohling's research interests include Brand Management, Digital Marketing, Marketing Strategy, Customer Relationship Management, Customer Lifetime Value, Innovation Adoption and Decision Modeling. Bohling holds a Doctorate of Business Administration from Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University, and an MBA and BBA from Bauer College of Business, University of Houston.
