The Matt Talbot Community Trust was founded in 1986 by Sr. Caoimhín Ní Uallachaín. Sr. Caoimhín had been working with young people from Ballyfermot for a number of years. Having initially set up a self-help group to support young people who had left school early and get them off the streets, a community eventually grew with the help of an army of volunteers... The Matt Talbot Community Trust is a drug free community education programme endeavouring to create change from a grassroots level in Ballyfermot... There was a state-of-the-art kitchen within the building that provided just over 5,500 hot meals per year prior to the fire. Cooking and eating together as a group are key elements of Matt Talbot Community Trust's approach to a holistic educational experience and the creation of a safe and secure place where participants old and new congregate.
