John Dahlz

Job Titles:
  • Coach
  • Head
I have the privilege of working as Head Coach of both the FOG Swimming family and the current Central Coast Section (CCS) and West Coast Athletic League (WCAL) Champion Saint Ignatius Women's Swim team. I have coached numerous All - American, State, Sectional and Far Western level swimmers over the past decade of working with both teams. My general coaching philosophy is starting at a place of speed and technique and elongating the intervals. FOG focuses on race pace training in the water and supplements with power, strength and injury prevention with drylands. This blend of training allows swimmers to stay healthy and adds continually changing stimuli for the athletes to adapt to. I believe in supporting our athlete's goals whether it is to just make your high school JV team or swimming collegiately in D1 and beyond. Prior to my full-time swim coaching from 2009 - 2013, I was the head coach of The UC Berkeley Triathlon team. During my tenure, the team never placed worse than 3rd as a Combined team at the Collegiate National Championships, earned 4 National Titles (2013 Women's Team Title, 2012 & 2013 Relay National Championships, 2013 Women's Individual National Champion) and 2 Runner - up National Titles (2013 Men's Individual, 2013 Men's Team, 2013 Combined Team, 2012 Women's Team). I was named UC Berkeley Sports Club Coach of the year twice (2011 & 2013). I attended Saint Ignatius College Prep and graduated in 2003. Upon going to Cal, I decided to give up my collegiate eligibility and turned professional in the sport of triathlon at 18 years old. It was an honor racing for my country around the world. I was the Collegiate National Champion in 2009, 3x Ironman distance Vineman Champion and lived and trained out of the Olympic Training Center from 2007 - 2009. I currently still hold a professional license in the sport of triathlon and have been an All - American Master's Swimmer and Pacific Swimming Swimmer of the Year.
