George Christou

George has worked as an IT specialist for 18 years developing the use of assistive technology in the classroom for children and young people with SEND. In his role, he implements the use of specialist hardware and software technologies as well as training and supporting school IT departments and staff in the use of assistive technology. He is qualified in Braille and British Sign Language. His strengths lie in developing bespoke, structured IT programs for students. His interests include supporting community groups, playing pool with his local team and watching football.

Hayley Adams

Hayley has over 22 years of knowledge and experience working as an audiology technician. She has historically helped to set up the East 17 parent and family group with our local audiology department. She has produced articles for the British Association of Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People magazine (BATOD) and currently acts as a Deaf role model for children and young people in Waltham Forest.

With over ten years' experience in the field of administration, project management, finance, IT and customer services within the public sectors and schools, Jignasha provides expert support to our Outreach Services and CPD Teams. Jignasha has a degree in Business Administration and IT.

Lisa Lewis

Lisa is a skilled Special Needs Teacher with many years of experience with working with students and educators in both mainstream and specialist education settings. Lisa has a Masters in Autism in Children, from the University of Birmingham (2019). She has been involved with a variety of theatre projects for young autistic people as well as setting up support groups for parents, carers and families of young autistic people. Lisa is passionate about celebrating neurodiversity.

Majella Williams

Majella had worked for four years as a Specialist Teacher of the Deaf at UCLH NHS Trust Paediatric Audiology and Auditory Implants at the Royal National ENT Hospital before joining us. She also worked for 10 years as the Head of a Primary Deaf Provision and is fluent in BSL (British Sign Language) and knows four other sign languages. Majella enjoys travelling and has done a lot of voluntary deaf and deafblind community work in the UK and Africa primarily. In her spare time she completed a postgraduate degree in Global Health during the pandemic lockdown period when she couldn't travel and connect with people.

Nicky Spence

Nicky has been working for the Outreach Service for the past 3 years. She is an Advisory Support Worker and supports both children and families within the borough. Prior to this she worked locally for 13 years as a Parent Support Worker supporting children with a hearing loss and their families. She has qualifications in Psychology and counselling. She has a son with a Profound hearing loss who has Cochlear Implants and therefore set up a monthly Cochlear Implant Support Group. In her spare time she enjoys walking her dog, swimming and travelling when possible.

Rebecca Nevill

Rebecca joined the outreach team in 2021 after working in school for children with SEND for 7 years where she completed her teacher training. Rebecca is now a qualified teacher of the deaf working in the deaf support service. She is working towards level 2 BSL (British sign language) and has level 4 in Makaton. Rebecca has a passion for maximising communication opportunities for all and uses her background in performing arts to create Makaton sign-along videos on her YouTube channel:

Sonia Ali

Sonia has been working with the Outreach Service since Apri 2017. She is a qualified spLD (Dyslexia) specialist Teacher and Assessor and holds AMBDA status (Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association). Previously she worked in mainstream settings for 14 years as a Secondary English teacher and SEND and Literacy teacher for students who experienced SEMH challenges; low literacy and ADHD. Sonia has written two books about ADHD: The Teenage Girl's Guide to living well with ADHD (Hachette, 2021) and The Emotional Literacy Toolkit for ADHD (Hachette, Nov 2023)

Sue Muir

Sue has been a Teacher of the Deaf in Waltham Forest for the past 19 years. She has extensive experience in providing training, advice and support for schools and Deaf children and their families. In her role she has been able to build strong relationships with schools, colleges, multi-disciplinary teams and many deaf children and their families. This has allowed Sue to be an integral part in supporting all those involved in the success of our deaf children and young people.
