Annabel Fearnall

Annabel is a Partner with Barbers Rural Consultancy LLP and heads up the Property Sales division of the firm. Responsible for all aspects of rural property sales from initial market valuation to completion of sale, Annabel is highly skilled, knowledgeable and experienced in the varied, and often complex, facets of rural property sales. She has an inherent understanding of the stress which can accompany selling and buying property her cool, calm and collected demeanour means she is an extremely safe pair of hands. Annabel is a Member of the National Association of Estate Agents and holds the NAEA Technical Award. She is also a member of the Agricultural Law Association. Born and bred in Shropshire, although educated in Yorkshire, Annabel married into a Shropshire farming family and has a wide knowledge of the local area. She is a keen horsewoman and enjoys skiing, walking and deer stalking but her pride and joy are Freddie aged 10 and Hattie aged 8 who are a total delight! Annabel's claim to fame: Annabel holds an HGV licence, even if it did take a total of five attempts to pass the test. However more recently she surprised all who know her by passing her trailer test first time!

Bob Oakes

Bob is a Consultant with Barbers Rural Consultancy. He specialises in all spheres of agricultural law, valuations, compensation, arbitration, planning and all aspects of property sales. Bob is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers, is an RICS Registered Valuer and was a Member of the Lord Chancellor's Panel of Agricultural Arbitrators between 1982 and 2008. He also carries out valuations for the Agricultural Mortgage Corporation, in addition to other national lending institutions. Originating from Gloucestershire, Bob was educated at Bedford School and the Royal Agricultural College before moving to Shropshire in 1971. He derives great pleasure from his family, wife Diana, children Hannah, Jessica and Tom and seven grandchildren. He is a keen golfer and enjoys a variety of country pursuits including visiting National Trust properties. Bob's claim to fame: Bob was a 3lb baby (this might be hard to believe for anyone who knows him).

Daniel Bowden

Dan is a Partner with Barbers Rural Consultancy. He undertakes all aspects of rural professional work including valuations, compensation claims, planning and development and specialises in grants, subsidies and stewardship schemes. Dan is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers and is an RICS Registered Valuer. He is also a panel valuer for the Agricultural Mortgage Corporation and is a Member of the British Institute of Agricultural Consultants. A local lad, Dan originates from Malpas and graduated from Harper Adams University with a BSc (Hons) in Rural Estate and Land Management. He has worked alongside Mike and Bob for many years. Dan enjoys both participating in and spectating numerous sports including hockey, golf, football, cricket and rugby. Dan has a young family who keep him extremely busy when he is not working or sporting!

Hannah Titterton

Hannah joined Barbers Rural in November 2017 to take on the role of office manager. Her challenge is to keep the office running smoothly whilst supporting the rest of the team. Whatever needs doing, Han is the 'go-to' and always has a smile on her face! Hannah is currently working towards the National Association of Estate Agents Technical Award. She was previously area coordinator for National Milk Records and as a result is well known by many dairy farmers in the area. When Hannah isn't working she is outside either renovating her barn or working her young gun dog Tweed who is showing great promise.

Harriet Jones

Harriet graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Rural Enterprise and Land Management from Harper Adams University. She did her placement year with Barbers Rural and is delighted to be back with the team working having now qualified as an RICS Registered Valuer and a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers. Shropshire born and bred, Harriet lives in a small hamlet outside Market Drayton in a house which our sales team sold to her family! She was educated at Ellesmere College on a tennis scholarship and spent her 6th form years at Adams Grammar School in Newport. She is a sporting pocket-rocket playing tennis, netball and participating in charity runs. In her spare time she enjoys keeping fit, eating out and spending time with her twin sister, Olivia. Harriet undertakes a wide variety of professional work including valuations, planning applications, compensation claims and landlord & tenant work. She particularly excels in Estate Management where she works closely with landowners helping to manage their property portfolios and estates efficiently, effectively and profitably by providing strategic and practical advice on a range of issues including acquisition, tax, insurance, development opportunities and diversification enterprises. Harriet's claim to fame: Harriet participated in Junior Wimbledon with her twin sister and represented the English tennis team in France in 2012.

Jonty Cliffe

Jonty is a Rural Chartered Surveyor having studied Rural Estate and Land Management at Harper Adams University. He undertakes all aspects of rural professional work including valuations, compensation claims, landlord and tenant matters along with grants, subsidies and stewardship schemes. Fully qualified with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors as an RICS Registered Valuer and a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers, Jonty is a talented livestock auctioneer and also works for Barbers Auctions (Market Drayton Market Ltd). Jonty is the son of a Cheshire farmer and outside of work Jonty is an active member of Cheshire Young Farmers Clubs and is County Chairman which is proving to be a real challenge during lockdown! He also enjoys both participating in and spectating football in his spare time, being an avid Crewe Alexander fan.

Louise Taylor - CEO

Louise is Managing Partner of Barbers Rural Consultancy. Her areas of expertise are Business Management, Marketing, Human Resources and Strategic Business Development. An experienced facilitator and RICS qualified mediator, Louise specialises in Succession Planning for farming families nationwide. Louise has a Master of Science in Rural Estate and Land Management from Harper Adams University and a Master of Arts in Humans Resources Management. She is also a member of the Agricultural Law Association and speaks extensively at national conferences about her facilitative approach to Succession Planning. The daughter of an agricultural merchant, Louise is Shropshire born and bred. Married to Mike, with whom she manages the business, Louise is a keen sportswoman enjoying tennis and snow-skiing and on a daily basis derives great pleasure from training her young gun dogs, Teddy and Ginny. Louise and Mike spend as much time as possible in the mountains, particularly Snowdonia where they enjoy walking and sailing. Rather more sedately Louise is a keen cook and experienced knitter - she is never happier than when cooking for her family. Louise is also Managing Director of Taylor Millbrook Ltd which specialises in Business Development, Cultural Change and Succession Planning. She has qualified as an Evaluative Mediator with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and uses these skills to facilitate a wide variety of 'difficult conversations' for dispute resolution issues.

Mike Taylor

Mike is Senior Partner of Barbers Rural Consultancy. He has extensive knowledge and over 30 years experience in a wide range of rural issues and specialises in agricultural law and valuations, together with the sale of farms, land and country properties. He is an experienced Expert Witness. Mike is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers, a Fellow of the National Association of Estate Agents, an RICS Registered Valuer, a member of the RICS Rural Board and a panel valuer for the Agricultural Mortgage Corporation in addition to other national lending institutions. Mike is also a member of the Agricultural Law Association. The son of a Shropshire farmer, Mike is married to Louise, with whom he manages the business, and they have two sons. A keen sportsman, Mike enjoys golf, tennis, skiing and fieldsports and loves nothing more than spending time with his family. Mike and Louise spend as much time is the mountains as possible, particularly Snowdonia where they enjoy walking and sailing.

Rachel Mcdermott

Rachel joined Barbers Rural Consultancy LLP in 2021 and provides professional services support to the surveyors as well as offering a wide variety of administrative support to the whole team. Having previously worked in agricultural insurance and for a large farm Vets, Rachel has a wealth of knowledge about the farming industry. Originally from Cheshire, Rachel now lives in Shropshire with her partner, who is a farm Vet, her son and four working Spaniels. Rachel enjoys all things rural and outdoors and can often be found training and working her dogs, or even helping out on TB tests from time to time (making sure the paperwork stays neat and tidy!).

Steph Vernon

Steph joined the Barbers Rural team earlier this year as Sales Negotiator in the expanding Estate Agency side of the business. She brings a wealth of skill and experience in all aspects of property sales having worked in the industry for a prestigious Cheshire firm for a number of years. Steph is friendly, approachable and professional and has a winning smile! She excels in the often tricky and frustrating sales progression aspect of property sales and frequently helps to avoid sales chains from falling apart - it has to be the hardest aspect of the business. Currently working towards the National Association of Estate Agents Technical Award, there is no doubt that Steph is more than qualified in experience after taking a job in Estate Agency following University whilst she pondered what to do next. She got the 'bug' for property and hasn't looked back since. Cheshire born and bred, Steph is married to a Cheshire dairy farmer and is mother to toddler Nancy - who is a complete poppet and itching to start school! Steph's claim to fame: Despite being a dairy farmer's wife, Steph has never milked a cow - sensible woman!
