According to the New York Times, "Enron, the champion of energy deregulation that grew into one of the nation's 10 largest companies, collapsed yesterday, after a rival backed out of a deal to buy it and many big trading partners stopped doing business with it. Enron, based in Houston, was widely expected to seek bankruptcy protection.
