Our lab was established with support from across the university. In 2016, investigators from the Department of Public Health Sciences, UChicago Medicine, Center for Health Administration Studies (CHAS) at the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice formed the Medicaid Working Group, which united faculty with a shared interested in applying rigorous and innovative analytic methods to study the Medicaid program. Following this, the Becker Friedman Institute Health Economics Initiative provided support to allow deep data-driven policy evaluation of the Medicare program. These efforts precipitated the Health Policy Data Lab, which unites common efforts across the University in the use of administrative health data.
