Carys Davis

Carys joined Brigshaw High School in 2023 from United Learning where she was Assistant Principal at an East London secondary school. Carys leads BLP Teacher Training, our own initial teacher training programme, and all Early Career Teacher (ECT) training and support. She studied at the University of Birmingham where she achieved a 2:1 in History and French. Carys became a teacher because she believes that all children deserve a great education, regardless of their background. She is passionate about developing excellent teachers.

Chris Kilby

Chris joined Brigshaw High School in 2023 from St John Fisher Catholic High School where he was Head of English and a Specialist Leader of Education. He leads on our teaching and learning strategy, so that our students can experience excellence every day. Chris studied at The University of York where he achieved a 2:1 in English and Linguistics. He became a teacher because he wanted each working day to be different and to offer him opportunities to work with young people, helping them develop into thriving members of society.

Duncan Roberts

Duncan joined Brigshaw High School in April 2023, having worked in various educational institutions across Leeds and Bradford, each serving different communities. Commencing his career as a teacher of Geography and Physical Education, he subsequently progressed to take on both academic and pastoral leadership roles. Over the forthcoming twelve months, his utmost priority is to ensure the provision of an exceptional education for all students, irrespective of their background, while concurrently fostering their character development through the implementation of a values-based curriculum. Prior to embarking on his teaching vocation, he studied Geography at Lancaster University, focusing on development studies. Here he gained a profound understanding of the pivotal role that education plays in promoting social mobility. It is this realisation that initially drew him to the teaching profession and has since driven him to become a Headteacher.

Helen Jefferson

Helen joined Brigshaw High School in 2010 as a trainee teacher after graduating from the University of Leeds with a degree in German and French. Before commencing her teaching qualification, she lived and worked in Austria to teach English as a foreign language to young people. Helen has undertaken a range of roles at Brigshaw with responsibility in both curriculum and pastoral aspects of school life, including Lead Teacher of KS5 Languages and House Leader. Helen currently leads on our Year 7 Transition strategy at Brigshaw, as well as leading the Modern Foreign Languages department. Helen is committed to providing students with the very best learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. She became a teacher to inspire pupils to become the greatest version of themselves and to ignite a passion for learning and personal development in every single student, despite differences in academic starting points and socio-economic backgrounds.

Jess joined Brigshaw in 2010 and has previously been the Deputy Director of English, Director of Learning: House Leader and now leads on behaviour, standards and community engagement. Jess studied Film and Television Production at York St. John University and has been teaching English since September 2013. As Brigshaw alumni, Jess is passionate about making sure our students have the best start to their lives and have equal opportunities to be the best they can be.

Kathryn Falk

Kathryn joined Brigshaw High School in September 2023, joining us from Castleford Academy where she was a teacher of Physical Education, Head of Year and Post 16 Leader. Kathryn leads our Sixth Form and Careers provision. She studied at the University of Warwick, gaining a BA (QTS) with Honours in Education with Physical Education. Kathryn chose teaching as a career in order to make a positive difference to the progress of pupils both academically and pastorally and firmly believes that all children deserve the very best opportunities to thrive and succeed throughout their entire academic journey.

Kerri-Louise Roberts

Kerri joined Brigshaw High School in 2009 as a newly qualified teacher. Kerri leads on our Reading, Writing and Communication strategy, as well as being the Director of Learning for English. Kerri studied at the University of Leeds, where she achieved an upper second class honours degree in English Language and Literature. Kerri became a teacher as she believes education is the key to empowering and enriching children's lives, allowing them to compete as equals in our global world; she also has a passion for her subject which she uses to inspire others.

Laura Draper

Laura has been Director of Science at Brigshaw since 2016, having joined Brigshaw in 2001 from Allerton High School. Laura leads on our Raising Standards strategy. Laura studied at the University of Leeds where she achieved an Upper Second-Class Honours degree in Human Biology. Laura became a teacher as she wanted to share her love of Biology and inspire students to pursue careers in Science.

Liz Wood

Liz joined Brigshaw in 2005, prior to this she was an analytical chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. Liz has worked closely with the schools inclusion department since 2007 and gained her National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) in 2012. Liz leads on Inclusion across the Brigshaw Learning Partnership and is primarily based at Brigshaw where she is responsible for Special Educational Needs and the designated teacher for Children looked After (CLA). Liz studied Chemistry at the University of York, where she achieved a Master of Chemistry degree. Liz became a teacher because she is passionate about Inclusion and believes that every child has the right to an inclusive education.

Pui joined Brigshaw High School in May 2019, and joined us from Sherburn High School, where she was DSL and Leader of Student Development and Wellbeing, along with being the Curriculum Leader for ICT. Pui now leads on our Pupil Premium strategy along with Enrichment and widening access. Pui studied Business and Information systems at the University of Sunderland where she achieved a 2:1, before going onto do her PGCE at Sheffield Hallam University. Pui became a teacher because she is passionate about supporting young people in getting a quality education and inspiring opportunities, which allows them to have the best life chances and an aspirational future.

Richard Wyatt

Richard joined Brigshaw High School in April 2023 after spending his career serving communities in South Yorkshire as Vice Principal. Richard leads in pastoral care. He studied at the University of Sheffield, where he achieved a B.A (Hons) in Geography and a PGCE. He also studied at Edge Hill University to gain his MA.Ed in Education. Richard became a teacher because he is passionate about the power that a good education has to transform the lives of young people and create opportunities for them to have the best life chances possible.
