DUNDEE CHORAL

Dundee Choral was founded in 1858 to contribute to the cultural life of Dundee through music. For over 160 years, we have put on inspiring performances of sacred and secular choral works... Dundee Choral Union has played with a variety of orchestras over the years, some local and amateur and more recently professional orchestras, particularly the orchestra of Scottish Opera. In the early days, a season of concerts over several nights could include a wholly orchestral concert, with Charles Hallé conducting his own orchestra in 1879. Other special concerts were put on for charitable purposes, such as 'Judas Maccabeus' in 1892 for the Sick Poor Nursing Society, a concert in 1915 for the Belgian Relief Fund and one in each of 1916, 1917, 1918 and 1919 for War Relief Funds. At the 1917 one, a certain Myra Hess was the pianist!
