The business started in 1926 and was based at 13 Arnesby Road in Lenton, Nottingham... Mr Johnson senior Arthur R Johnson had initially worked for National Cash Registers and did not want to go to India so he left and started his own business looking after cash registers for some of the large department stores and public houses from Birmingham to Doncaster and as far east as Skegness. He continued to trade during the war years and after the war one of his sons joined him in the family business which was located at Arkwright Street in the Meadows. His son then left and went to work for Gross Cash Registers. Arthur carried on but eventually was not well enough to continue, this is when his son Gerald took over and as the business continued to grow was soon joined by his wife Mavis.
