Kendrick Gilkes. She joined the Board of Directors in 2006 and has served on the Council of the British Society of Perfumers. Outside of the world of scents and family, Emma's passions are cinema and travel.

Kendrick founded Stort Chemicals Ltd with his late wife Marguerite in 1980 in Bishop's Stortford. He obtained a BSC in Chemistry from Birmingham University in 1961. Together, he and Marguerite ran the business until 1995, when their son Richard joined as Managing Director. Kendrick is still involved in the business overseeing its continued long-term growth with the help of his daughter Emma and other family members who are part of the close-knit Stort team.
Kendrick Gilkes, founder of Stort Group, started his career as a paint chemist in the 1960s. With the close relationships Kendrick formed throughout his career, he seized the opportunity to start a chemical distribution company. Before the days of the internet or shared currencies, Stort supported a wide range of customers by offering materials from all over the world into the UK market. Now that the world is better connected, Stort Group provide close customer and supplier partnerships, offering extensive UK stock with reduced risks for all parties.
With 4 warehouses across the UK and 2 in Europe, we are able to offer 1-3 day lead times for stock material and ensure that our customers' contracted material is readily available. Our dedicated, technically trained team are on-hand to help with all requests, big or small, whether it be 1kg or 100 tonnes. Staying true to the ethos of our founders, Kendrick and Marguerite Gilkes, Stort Group remain focussed on transparency throughout the supply chain. Richard joined Stort Chemicals Ltd in 1995 after four years at Barclays Bank, including 18 months working in Milan. He became Managing Director in 2000. Richard has an MBA from Cranfield School of Management and is a Member of the Executive Board of the Chemical Business Association (CBA). He has also sat on the Government's Prompt Payment Advisory Board.
