Alethea Thomas-Giles

Alethea began her time at PJL back in 2009, starting out in reception and helping out with recruitment, before quickly adding shifts into her day with the young people at Mayfield. After being convinced to move out of the office and work with the young people full time she was asked to join a new team at Framfield and begin life as the Deputy Manager. Alethea has spent the last 7 years at Framfield as Deputy and for a short period as Acting Manager before having some time to start her own family. She came back to Framfield in 2020 as Support Manager. Since July 2022 Leathy's role has changed to Rota Induction and Compliance. When not working she's enjoys seeing the world and hanging out with her big family Alethea's favourite biscuit is a triple chocolate cookie for that extra bit of indulgence!

Alison Cook - CFO

Alison is a qualified Chartered Management Accountant and was previously a Finance Director before taking a career break to raise her children. When the time was right, Alison decided to get back in the field and joined PJL Healthcare in a part time accountancy role. Alison very quickly progressed within the company and was invited to join the board in 2019 as PJL Healthcare Finance Director. In Alison's spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Riding, skiing and walking her dogs. Alison's fave biscuit is Party Rings … this week!

Amy Robinson

Amy first began working as a Support Worker in 2009 and hasn't looked back. Realising that there is nothing more important than supporting young people who live in a children's residential setting to live safe, happy lives and have their voices heard, has driven Amy to work in a number of roles which allow her to make a positive difference to their lives. Amy has been at PJL Healthcare Ltd since 2015 where she helped set up Framfield Children's Home and became the Registered Manager, and was appointed as Responsible Individual for PJL Healthcare Ltd in July 2022. Amy is passionate about building trusting and meaningful relationships, and believes that children and young people can only achieve their full potential when they are loved and have lasting connections with the adults looking after them. Amy's focus is on making sure that any child's experience of living in a children's home is a good one. Her fave biscuit is a chocolate hobnob (dunked in tea of course).

Becky Matthews

Becky started at Mayfield Children's Home in 2009 on an agency contract and liked it so much, she decided to join the team full time as she no longer enjoyed going to other agency settings. She worked as a Support Worker for about 4 years before being promoted to Team Leader. After working as a Team Leader for 2½ years, Becky then took on the Activity Co-ordinator role which she enjoyed for 18 months before being promoted to Deputy Manager in 2017. When not at work, Becky likes spending time with her two boys & husband, getting outside and spending time with friends and family. Becky's not sure what her favourite biscuit is … when pushed for a choice, it would have to be a Golden Crunch.

Debbie Lewis

Debbie started her career over 30 years ago as a support worker in residential childcare with children with complex needs and disabilities and has since worked in a variety of childcare settings in management roles. After having her 3rd child, Debbie felt like a change in career and began teacher training (post compulsory education for learners 16+) and worked for a local college delivering childcare related training and qualifications. She went on to manage a community learning organisation which delivered a wide variety of training courses and qualifications. Four years ago, Debbie joined PJL as an Assessor and has now progressed to the role of Training Manager with Stella, the former PJL Training Manager as her mentor. She is excited about the future and knows she has the support of a fantastic training team. Debbie has a real passion for making learning relevant and developing practitioners skills to ensure the young people have the best care possible. She is delighted to be able to bring her own experience and knowledge to support the staff in their continuing professional development at PJL. Debbie's favourite biscuit is a ‘moo cow' biscuit (AKA Malted Milk!)

James Kay

James is a dedicated individual with a passion for supporting others to achieve their goals. He has worked in various settings including residential, supportive accommodation, outreach, and youth centres. James has previously been employed as a support worker, senior support worker, assistant manager, care manager and a CQC registered manager. When not at work he enjoys getting out and about with his daughter. James' favourite biscuit has to be the Fig roll.

Janis Thompson

Having worked in the travel and service industry for most of her working career, fate took Janis in a different direction when her daughter asked her to cover an administrative role here at Mayfield Children's Home. Although completely different to any role she had ever done she absolutely loved it and was devastated to learn that the home was closing down. It had been a home for over 50 years and some of the children had grown up here. To save it became Janis' mission and it is from this point that PJL Healthcare was formed and our journey together began.

Karli Tompsett

Job Titles:

Karli has worked for PJL for over 15 years, starting back in 2005 as a support worker, before progressing to join the management team. Karli has been pivotal in supporting our Mayfield site to develop into the home it is today. Throughout her many years of employment she has turned her hand to several different roles. Settling into the job of Rota and Induction Manager in 2016 and then, in 2019, developing this role to offer her skills and expertise to the whole of PJL Healthcare. Karli is a keen runner who is also very fond of chocolate! Karli's favourite biscuit is a Viennese finger.

Leah Thompson

Leah started working in the care industry as a volunteer in 1999 and very quickly knew she had found her vocation. Since then Leah has progressed through the care sector and has subsequently been appointed as a Registered Manager three times. In 2014 Leah was invited to join the Board of Directors at PJL Healthcare. When not at work, Leah enjoys spending time with her family, impromptu trips away in the campervan and exploring the countryside with her French Bulldog. Leah's favourite biscuit is a chocolate digestive … perfect for tea dunking!

Lycia Sellars

The ‘L' in PJL, Lycia was a health professional all her working life, initially working as a paediatric dietitian at a large London hospital and, having moved to Sussex, then working at local hospitals. Lycia had a special interest in the nutrition and diets of children and young people and made sure those living at PJL's homes ate interesting and nutritional food. Lycia also provided an excellent confidential counselling service for PJL staff who, from time to time, needed support. Lycia provided excellent support to PJL and helped develop the business with sound and measured advice. Sadly Lycia passed away in 2021 and is much missed by us all. However, her legacy lives on in the care we give to both our young people and our team.

Marina Saayman

Having been a nurse for 22 years, Marina did agency work with us for some time. She liked the working practice at PJL so much, that when she was given the opportunity in 2013 to work full time for us, she jumped at the chance! Marina started as a Support Worker and progressed in 2018 to become the Night Staff Manager. When not at work, Marina has a passion for travel and technology gadgets. Marina's favourite biscuit is Party Rings.

Mat Smith

After nearly a decade as a tradesman, Mat came to PJL Healthcare to try something new. He had just had his first child and thought he would try his hand at working with children with disabilities. Mat joined in 2013 and immediately became the reliable team member to call upon in a crisis. Mat worked with some of the most challenging children and was always there to support in a challenging situation. Mat was made a Team Leader and has run almost every house at our Mayfield site. Mat has built a solid reputation, with not only families but also Local Authorities and social workers, as a trustworthy and dedicated worker. In 2018 Mat became the PBS practitioner for Mayfield supporting all houses with behaviour management and positive outcomes. In 2020 he was promoted to Deputy Manager at Mayfield. Mat's favourite biscuit is an Oreo.

Megan King

Megan is a positive and passionate person, who can deal calmly with any eventuality. Having worked in the care industry for 10 years in a range of different settings including residential, day services, community outreach, and respite, she has considerable experience supporting those with complex learning disabilities, including associated challenging behaviour and complex medical needs, autism spectrum condition and physical disabilities. Megan has also worked for many years at a local riding stable, where she has been able to use her knowledge of supporting people with learning disabilities and social, emotional, and mental health difficulties to try a new sport. Megan's favourite biscuit is a fruity shortcake.

Olly White

Olly is the Deputy Manager of our Framfield home. Olly joins us from our sister home Mayfield. Olly has a history of care management in both the learning disability and SEMH fields, supporting many children with different needs. Olly has a particular passion for the outdoors and enjoys the summers where the young people are able to spend lots of time in the garden and out on activities doing the things they love. When Olly is not at work he enjoys keeping fit and active, and spending time with his young family. Olly's favourite biscuit is shortbread, closely followed by a milk chocolate Hobnob!

Paul Sellars

Paul had worked in finance for 30 years when he was contacted by his friend Janis, in 2006, to discuss Mayfield Children's Home's closure. Paul and Janis made an offer to purchase the home back in 2006 and the rest, as they say, is history. Paul, along with Janis have grown PJL Healthcare from a small children's home in 2006 with 5 residents and 20 staff, to two children's homes and one respite service, offering care to over 20 children and young people, with 150 staff. Paul frequently works alongside the Commissioning and Marketing team and loves a good tender! Paul continues to visit the homes at least weekly and enjoys being part of day-to-day running. Paul is the P in PJL Healthcare. Paul's favourite biscuit is malted milk.

Rob Barnard

Following a decision to leave teaching and a few years working abroad, Rob joined PJL Healthcare in 2015. Being his first experience of working in care, Rob would freely admit he had no idea what to expect but he has certainly learnt the ropes in a variety of roles at PJL. He initially worked at Mayfield Children's Home and spent 6 months as a Support Worker, 6 months as a Key Worker, 12 months as the Activities and Independence Co-ordinator and then 24 months as a Team Leader. Having gained invaluable knowledge and experience, Rob left Mayfield Children's Home with fond and happy memories and equipped for a new challenge, taking on the role of Deputy Manager (Maternity Cover) at Framfield Children's Home in 2019. After an eventful and fun packed year, Rob accepted the Deputy Manager job on a permanent basis and continued to enjoy the daily challenges the role provided … so much so he took on the role of Acting Manager in June 2021 and became Registered Manager in January 2023. When not a work Rob enjoys peace and quiet and time with family and close friends. When it comes to his favourite type of biscuit Rob says "how could I possible choose one? … anything that goes well with a cup of tea is good for me!"
