Christoph Ackermann, Architect and Principal at BDP explains why our workplace environments must adapt quicker, following a shift in post-pandemic working patterns. Christoph is an architect director in the Glasgow studio. He develops and delivers projects from inception to completion across a broad range of sectors including workplace, education and retail, specialising in major projects. Here he discusses the importance of designing for collaboration in the science, research and technology sector. Christoph is an architect and principal in the Glasgow studio. He has considerable experience in delivering major projects across a variety of sectors including science and research, healthcare, education, workplace and retail. He leads interdisciplinary design teams in the development and construction of complex projects from inception to completion and has been managing and realising projects using Building Information Modelling for over a decade. He recently completed the award-winning Technology and Innovation Centre for the University of Strathclyde and is currently delivering the new School of Engineering for the University of Edinburgh as well as the Student Teaching and Learning Hub at the University of Strathclyde and the BioHub Project in Aberdeen. Previous projects include Nanjing Medical University, Eastwood High School, Lasswade High School, Buchanan Galleries and the Capella Building in Glasgow.

Colin is a lighting director in our London studio and co-leads lighting profession with Tom. Educated in architecture, Colin has subsequently worked as a lighting designer for 21 years, with 10 years experience at Speirs + Major and 6 years at Isometrix Lighting + Design prior to joining BDP in 2011. At these studios he has contributed to internationally award winning projects including: Museum of Islamic Art - Galleries, Doha; Sakarin Mosque, Istanbul, Roca Gallery London, St Paul's Cathedral, Interior Lighting and ‘The Hive' UK Pavilion. His current work includes the Palace of Westminster, UCL and the University of Cambridge. He has a particular interest in developing innovative techniques for lighting within World Heritage venues plus Carbon Exemplary projects for cutting edge science institutes. Colin has developed a series of lectures that look at how Light in Faith is represented from historical, religious and psychological perspectives in architecture and contemporary art, which he has delivered across the UK, Europe, North and South America. An organiser of a London Light & Film Festival, Colin also speaks about parallels of Lighting in Film, Theatre & Architecture. He has authored a number of articles for national and international professional lighting magazines and is a regular speaker at lighting events and conferences around the world. Lighting director Colin Ball is a keynote speaker at both Share Belgrade and Share Sofia 2018, the international architecture and engineering forum for innovation and exploration of new materials and technologies. Lighting director Colin Ball is interviewed on BBC radio Cambridgeshire about the lighting team's participation in e-Luminate Cambridge Festival 2017. Lighting designers Colin Ball and Chris Lowe are both speakers at the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) Enlighten Europe conference in Prague. Lighting director Colin Ball will present at 16.45 on the second day of the GIS International Interior Architecture Expo in Bucharest. Using the theme Lighting an Idea he will explore how architectural lighting has been misunderstood for many years as an engineered function of eyesight.

David Artis

David is an architect director within the London studio, working on a range of projects within the culture and heritage sector. David has a passion for the role buildings play in shaping cities and has designed and delivered a variety of prestigious, award-winning civic projects of a variety of scales. Often situated in sensitive contexts with challenging briefs, a large number of these have been secured as a result of David supporting clients in successful funding applications to bodies such as the Heritage Lottery Fund and positive engagement with local planning authorities and statutory consultees. This includes the extension, restoration and refurbishment of the Grade II* Leighton House. David is skilled in working within a collaborative studio where ideas are rigorously tested and explored in pursuit of finding an appropriate architectural response. He enjoys working from concept, through to the detailing and technical challenges of projects, to develop crafted, sustainable solutions that fully respond to the client's brief. David's student dissertation won the RIBA President's Medal in 2000 and he was featured in Building Design's top UK architectural graduates.

Hossam Abdalla

Hossam has a key role in Manchester's portfolio of international work including projects in Sweden, Egypt, Libya and Kuwait. As a project manager Hossam has managed a large number of key projects from fee bidding stage up to completion including Siemens, Motorola and Hyundai for the semi conductors industry and subsequently the Rope Walks and Liverpool One where he was also closely involved with establishing BDP's studio in Liverpool. Hossam qualified as an architect in Egypt before completing an Msc in project management. He is fluent in French and Arabic as well as English, a great asset in his involvement in the development of BDP's firmwide international strategy.
