Adelle Fallows

Adelle is a Veterinary Nurse and Phlebotomist in our Midlands team. Her role is to take the blood from each donor and monitor their welfare throughout the donation.

Amanda Boag

Job Titles:

Amanda graduated as a veterinary surgeon from Cambridge University in 1998. She undertook further clinical training at The Royal Veterinary College and The University of Pennsylvania and is Board certified in both Internal Medicine and Emergency and Critical Care. She was a Lecturer in Emergency and Critical Care at the RVC from 2003-2008. In September 2008, she took up the post of Clinical Director at Vets Now where she remained until taking up her current role as Group Referral Director for IVCEvidensia in January 2020. She is the author of many peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and is co-editor of the BSAVA Manual of Emergency and Critical Care. She acts as a veterinary consultant for Pet Blood Bank and has had an active interest in transfusion medicine for many years including setting up the internal blood bank at the RVC and using many blood products on her patients! She is Past-President of the European Society of Emergency and Critical Care and was Founding President of the European College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. She is an elected RCVS Council member since 2012 and was President of the RCVS from 2018-2019. She received the BSAVA Melton award for meritorious contribution to small animal practice in 2011. Amanda spent 12 years working in emergency and critical care as Clinical Director for Vets Now before moving into her current role of Group Referral Director for IVCEvidensia in January 2020.

Anne S Hale

Job Titles:

Anne is Chief Scientific Officer for The Platelet Farm LLC, responsible for researching and developing an Equine Freeze Dried Platelet Product for use in regenerative healing of tendons and ligaments. She was formally CEO & Chairman of ABRI, and is a nationally recognized expert in veterinary transfusion medicine. She has over 20 years experience in veterinary medicine and has been the recipient of several awards and honors in the industry. Anne has been instrumental in identifying and performing research and overseeing commercialisation for blood products and point of care veterinary compatibility testing. She is a regular speaker and has published many industry papers on veterinary medicine and blood transfusion. She has been a practicing veterinarian since 1990, with experiences in Internal Medicine and Oncology at the Ann Arbor Animal Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI, and as Research Associate at the Immunohematology and Serology Laboratory, Michigan State University where she received an NIH Fellowship: Transfusion Medicine Academic Award. Currently, as a member of the North American Veterinary Regenerative Medicine Association, she serves as a member of the Regulatory Affairs and Laboratory Standards committee. Anne is a founding member of the American Association of Veterinary Blood Banks. She is a founding member and current board member of the Association of Veterinary Hematology and Transfusion Medicine. She has also been involved with Washtenaw County Veterinary Association, Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Blood Banks and Michigan Association of Blood Banks. She received residency training in Internal Medicine-Small Animal Clinical Sciences from Michigan State University and received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University.

Becki Redford-Knight

Becki joined Pet Blood Bank in 2019 after previously working in Police Custody. Becki now looks after our donors and their post session welfare. Caroline is our Veterinary Manager. This means she is responsible for managing our collection teams across the UK.

Chris Laurence

  • Veterinary Surgeon from Bristol University
Chris has been active in veterinary politics since the 1970s and has been Chairman of Southern Region BSAVA, President of BVHA, Treasurer of the Links Group, and on the Veterinary Policy Group of BVA. Chris is currently Chair of the Animal Welfare Foundation, Chair of the Canine and Feline Sector Group of the England Animal Health and Welfare Board, Chair of the South West Regional Board of the RSPCA, and Treasurer of both the Animal Behaviour and Training Council and Central Veterinary Society. Chris has been married to Sheila since 1969 and has two children and four grandchildren. Chris Laurence qualified as a veterinary surgeon from Bristol University in 1968. Now retired, Chris dedicates his time to veterinary politics and charity work.

Claire Whitehead

Claire completed a Residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine at The Ohio State University in July 2005. After a further year at Ohio State as a clinical instructor in Camelid Medicine and Reproduction, she returned to the UK in 2007 where she established the first referral service catering specifically for camelids alongside other farm animals at The Royal Veterinary College. In May 2011, she set up in private practice running a camelid-only referral and consultancy practice and runs courses for vets and owners/breeders on Camelid Health and Reproduction. She opened a new camelid-focused facility in Summer 2015. She is the current President of the British Veterinary Camelid Society and was recognized as an RCVS Specialist in Camelid Health and Production in February 2016. Claire is an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Camelid Health and Production. She is the current President of the British Veterinary Camelid Society as well as running her own camelid-only referral and consultancy practice.

Craig Hunt

Craig is a specialist in Zoo and Wildlife Medicine. He graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 1997 and proceeded to work in mixed-species practice in East Sussex for five years. A subsequent move to Gloucestershire for three years followed, before he settled at Chine House Veterinary Hospital, Leicestershire in 2005. He obtained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Medicine in 2000 and the RCVS Certificate in Zoological Medicine in 2002. In 2013, he was awarded the RCVS Diploma in Zoo Medicine, one of only a small number of veterinary surgeons to achieve it in this country. In 2014, he was recognised as a specialist by the RCVS. Craig provides a personal and high quality first and second opinion service in exotic pet medicine and surgery, where most species of exotic pet are catered for including parrots, raptors, ornamental fowl, reptiles, rabbits, rodents, small mammals, ferrets, primates, amphibians, ornamental fish and invertebrates. Craig is always willing to share his knowledge and has performed transfusions on many different animal species. He is part of our advisor team for when exotic pets find themselves in need of blood. Craig is married to Pet Blood Bank UK's founder Wendy and has been involved in helping the charity since it began in 2007. Craig is an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Zoo Medicine. He provides a personal and high quality first and second opinion service in exotic pet medicine and surgery at Chine House Veterinary Hospital.

Doreen Steed

Dr Sarah Caney - CEO

Dr Sarah Caney, CEO of Vet Professionals, has worked as a feline-only vet for more than twenty years. She is a University of Bristol graduate and also completed her feline medicine residency and PhD at this institution. Sarah spent four years as a lecturer in feline medicine before leaving to pursue a career in private practice. Sarah has always enjoyed seeing a mixture of first opinion and referral feline medicine patients and has a particular interest in geriatric feline medicine. Sarah is internationally recognised as one of only thirteen veterinary specialists in feline medicine in the UK. Sarah founded Vet Professionals in 2009 and has authored and co-authored a number of the Vet Professionals ‘Caring for a cat' series of books. Sarah has published widely in prestigious international journals and has been an invited speaker to veterinary conferences around the world. Sarah has worked for many years with the UK cat charity International Cat Care and the International Society of Feline Medicine. Sarah is CEO of Vet Professionals and has worked as a feline-only vet for more than twenty years. She is internationally recognised as one of only thirteen veterinary specialists in feline medicine in the UK.

Harvey graduated from Liverpool University in 1969 and worked in clinical practice until his retirement from full time work in 2011.

Hayley Duncan

Hayley is our Marketing Assistant. She supports our Marketing Manager in getting the word out about Pet Blood Bank and managing our marketing and fundraising activities.

Helen Rooney

Helen manages our Training department, ensuring all staff are fully trained and supported in their roles. She also manages our external CPD and training for Vets and Vet Nurses.

Jenny Helm

Jenny graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Glasgow in 2005. Since 2010, Jenny has worked at the University of Glasgow Small Animal Hospital where she is currently a Senior Clinician.

Joanne Coles

John M Hill

John qualified from Trinity College in Dublin in 1975. After spending four years in large animal and mixed practices in Northern Ireland and Lancashire, John bought a predominantly large animal practice in Crumlin, Co. Antrim in 1979.

Katie Douglas

Katrina Wilkinson - Managing Director

Katrina is our Managing Director. She works with our Trustees to develop our strategy and with the team to ensure we achieve what we set out to do.

Katy Scott

Katy works in our stock and distribution department and helps to ensure that our blood products get to where they need to be, when they need to be there!

Lara Howe

Lara is one of the vets in our Midlands team. She is responsible for the welfare of all our donors at donation sessions, which includes giving them a health check before they donate.

Lauren Robinson

Sapphire McInnes

Throughout her career, Sapphire has studied Animal Care and Management and worked in dog rescue for 20 years until joining Pet Blood Bank in 2018. What Sapphire loves most about working for Pet Blood Bank: 'I wanted to explore other areas of helping to save pet's lives outside of rescue and Pet Blood Bank was the perfect fit! I love working in a sector that is both rewarding and really makes a difference to people and pets' lives.' Outside of work Sapphire enjoys spending time with her family; two children, a dog and a cat. Sapphire is our Donor Supervisor. She is responsible for managing our Donor Administration Team who look after all our appointments and donor care in the office.

Simon Tappin

Simon is a specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine and has a particular interest in acute medicine. He graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2002 and after spending two years in small animal practice, undertook a residency in small animal medicine and intensive care at the University of Bristol. He is a diplomat of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and is currently Head of Internal Medicine at Dick White Referrals. Here he sees a range of medical cases as well as overseeing the residency and internship programmes. He enjoys teaching and has lectured widely in the UK and Europe on a variety of subjects, including his passions of acute medicine, infectious disease and transfusion therapy. Simon has given many transfusions during his career and lots of his patients have benefited from quick and convenient access to blood from Pet Blood Bank. He joined our Advisor Team to share his experience and enjoys providing support to colleagues in general practice. Simon is a specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine and has a particular interest in acute medicine. He is currently Head of Internal Medicine at Dick White Referrals.

Sophie Adamantos

Sophie graduated before Google existed. She was the first person to complete a standard track residency in Emergency and Critical Care in the UK and was a Senior Lecturer at the Royal Veterinary College and before moving to Langford Vets in 2013. She has extensive experience in Transfusion medicine and small scale blood banking and has published in both areas. Sophie is currently Clinical Director and ECC Clinician at Paragon Veterinary Referrals in Wakefield. Sue Mitchell

From volunteering at our donation sessions and being on national TV to attending Crufts and helping on our stand, Sue has gone above and beyond over many years to support Pet Blood Bank. Since registering her first dog with us in 2015, Sue has attended every donation session she possibly can meaning that together, her boys have helped to save the lives of up to 280 other dogs! Sue also regularly attends events with her dogs proudly wearing their lifesaver bandanas to raise awareness. She has travelled all across the country to support us and nothing is ever too much of an ask. Sue really is an ambassador in the truest form and we are so lucky to have her support.

Suzanne Nurse
