Throughout her handling of complicated technical and policy issues, Quarterman has been a steadfast advocate for responsible energy and natural resource development and environmentally prudent regulations. Quarterman served as the head of PHMSA during the Obama administration and as the US Department of the Interior's (DOI) Director of the former Minerals Management Service (now the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, and the DOI Office of Natural Resources Revenue) during the Clinton administration. She has also served in numerous other capacities within the DOI and was a member of the Obama administration's transition team at the Department of Energy. Wesley Burghardt is responsible for Mc Cormick's undergraduate education program, including curriculum, professional development, and personal development. Burghardt joined the Northwestern faculty in 1990 and has served as chair of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. His research interests seek to understand the dynamics of complex fluids during flow, and he has developed pioneering optical and X-ray scattering methods for studying the structural dynamics of polymers. He has been honored with teaching awards, including being named a Charles Deering Mc Cormick Professor of Teaching Excellence in 2011. He has a BS in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois, and a PhD in chemical engineering from Stanford University.
