Bill Carlson

​Bill Carlson joined MCA in 2022 as a Product Manager and helps mutual clients leverage analytics to improve the performance of their products. He brings 10 years of experience across P&C Product Management and Innovation & Growth strategy Consulting. Prior to joining MCA, Bill worked at Travelers in personal lines for more than seven years. From 2012-2017, he supported the rollout of new auto and homeowners products in five states across the Western Region. From 2017-2019, Bill was the Market Director for New York, a greater-than $1 billion book of business. In this role, Bill contributed to the development of innovative approaches for pricing the auto line of business and supported decision-making for the initial structure for a new homeowner's product. Outside of these state team assignments, Bill developed and led new training classes for the Travelers Product Management Development Program and while pursuing his MBA, Bill continued to support Travelers' Actuarial and Performance Analytics team in his off time. In addition to his experience in P&C, Bill spent time at Innosight, a leading strategy consulting firm that helps organizations navigate disruption and develop future-oriented growth strategy. In this role Bill supported clients across a variety of industries to develop growth strategies and modify their operating model to drive performance. Bill has an MBA from the Yale School of Management and a BA in Actuarial Science from the University of Connecticut. Outside of work, Bill enjoys spending time with his family. A lifelong resident of Connecticut, Bill appreciates every opportunity to take in the shoreline whether it be boating or enjoying seafood.

Brian Ortega

Brian joined MCA in June 2023 as a Product Manager, dedicated to facilitating the optimization of mutual clients' products through the strategic use of data and analytics. With a background encompassing a combined four years of experience in P&C Product Management and claims analytics, Brian brings a wealth of expertise to his role. His track record and diverse skill set make him an invaluable asset to MCA and a trusted partner in driving clients' success through data-driven product enhancement. Prior to joining MCA, Brian started his career at The Travelers, where he made significant contributions in Small Commercial, including pricing decisions across diverse segments of business, resulting in increased competitiveness and effective mitigation of state-specific risks. Brian played a pivotal role in the successful introduction of product across multiple states within his region. Furthermore, Brian's proficiency in claims analytics enabled him to leverage his technical acumen to expertly collect, prepare, process and analyze data for various internal stakeholders. When he's not working, Brian nurtures a passion for culinary arts. During fall and winter he's a devoted fan of football and basketball. In the summer Brian enjoys fishing the Salmon River in CT, and the not-so-enjoyable experience of losing five lures per visit.

Dan Post

Dan joined MCA as Chief Actuary in October 2022 to expand our capabilities into the actuarial space. This includes rate reviews, reserve reviews, pricing and segmentation analyses, claims analytics, and strategic actuarial services. The actuarial rigor will complement our Product Management services and will allow MCA to provide an even more holistic offering to our clients. Dan earned his Fellowship into the Casualty Actuarial Society in 2002. His background in various roles during his 18-year tenure at The Hartford and 23 years in the industry uniquely positions him to provide this wealth of support. As The Hartford's Chief Reserving Actuary, Dan was responsible for all reserving decisions for a $22B book of gross liabilities across personal and commercial lines. As their Personal Lines Chief Actuary Dan led pricing, reserving, and planning functions for a $4B personal auto and home book. Dan's 5 years leading a State Product Management team within Personal Auto and Home during a new product launch gives him the perspective to provide an important link between Product Management and Actuarial. When he's not diving into a variety of business solutions at MCA, Dan enjoys spending time outside with his wife, four teenage kids, and two dogs. He loves planning vacations and organizing elaborate games or tournaments for family and friends. Dan trains for obstacle course races and is always looking for a new physical or intellectual challenge.

Drew Hill

Drew joined the MCA team in August 2021 as a Product Manager. Since joining the team, he has partnered with both new and existing clients on projects spanning a wide array of disciplines. He has delivered on key initiatives pertaining to data asset development, product performance monitoring capabilities, and new product development and pricing strategies. He has enjoyed supporting clients whose needs span both Personal and Commercial lines of business. Drew believes in pairing relevant business context and learnings with analytical insights to drive results. He has a focused passion for leveraging data and analytics across the insurance value chain to lead thoughtful and relevant decision making. Some of his specific analytics expertise are in business performance, product competitiveness and pricing relevance, and execution or process analytics. Prior to joining the MCA team, Drew spent 6 years at Travelers Insurance, holding various roles spanning Product Management, Countrywide Business Performance Analytics, and Business Model Effectiveness. Drew pairs his professional passions with personal enjoyments such as spending time with family & friends, as well as traveling. You can usually find him engaging in an outdoor activity such as running during warmer months, or downhill skiing in the winter. He has a dream of one day beating Bobby Flay in a head-to-head cook-off.

John Joseph

John joined the MCA team in 2021 and has partnered with clients to enhance ease of doing business, free up underwriter and processor capacity, and implement renewal rate management strategies. He has built quote data monitoring tools and derived new insights that led to optimizing straight-through-processing capabilities and book mix strategies. John is passionate about working with clients to develop meaningful growth, profit, and process strategies that are practical and fit into the organizations existing culture and vision. John is experienced in small commercial quoting processes and works with clients to advance their agency quote platform, whether it is standing up a new product from scratch or elevating the existing platform and question sets. The extensive market research John has conducted into improving the agent experience helps clients minimize friction in the quoting process, leading to a better user experience and more quote flow. Prior to joining MCA, John spent nine years in Business Insurance at Travelers with roles in Small Commercial and Middle Market Product Management working with state and regional teams on product and pricing strategies, and managing the commercial auto book. When John is not playing with data, he enjoys spending time with his wife and playing sports with his two children in the backyard. John loves the outdoors and you can find him meandering around his garden during the warm weather months and downhill skiing during the winter.

Kevin Finn is President and CEO of Mutual Capital Analytics. In this role, he is accountable for setting the strategic vision for the company and ensuring top notch delivery for all MCA clients. Kevin created MCA in November 2019 when he recognized that there was an enormous gap between the data and analytics capabilities that publicly traded insurance companies could exploit and the rest of the Mutual Insurance industry. After 20 years working for national insurance companies, Kevin felt it was time to build a company that would help an industry centered around its members, dedicated to long-term commitment to people and communities, while managing the business for long term success, not quarterly results. One of the areas that Kevin enjoys most about creating a new company is the opportunity to build the culture of MCA. He strives to create an environment where talent is attracted for their ability to hone their technical skills, as well as the chance to work closely with great clients to identify practical applications of expertise and experience. The entire company is centered around delivering successful results. Instead of billable hours, the people of MCA focus on outcomes for clients. Prior to forming MCA, Kevin held a variety of senior leadership positions at The Hartford and Liberty Mutual. He started his career in actuarial roles and transitioned to broader leadership roles throughout his tenure at these companies. He was fortunate enough to run a diverse set of businesses, from National Accounts to Captives to Excess and Surplus to Small Commercial. Consistently curious, he enjoyed the challenges of running such diverse businesses to deliver outstanding financial results. Kevin enjoys spending time with his wife and two teenage kids in Farmington, Connecticut. He has outgrown his coaching days, but still enjoys supporting his kids in their sporting endeavors in baseball, basketball, and lacrosse. When not living and breathing MCA, Kevin likes to sneak out to the golf course or down to the beaches of Rhode Island.

Kim Castellini

Kim joined the MCA team in March 2023 as a Pricing Analyst, where she harnesses data manipulation tools to cleanse, aggregate, merge, or otherwise prepare data for analysis. Kim completes technical builds using several technologies for profitability, production, and quote datasets supporting client activities. She works with team members to provide state and line of business insights that drive recommendations that clients can utilize to improve business performance from multiple lenses. Before MCA, Kim worked in the construction industry providing risk mitigation services for construction managers. She earned her Bachelor's degree in business administration before earning an MBA with a concentration in business analytics from Southern New Hampshire University. When Kim isn't applying her analytical skills, she enjoys building and growing gardens for friends and family. Alongside her agricultural interests, you can find her at the local book fairs looking for the next great read.

Kyle Welch

Kyle joined the MCA team in February 2022, as a Pricing Analyst where he uses data preparation tools to cleanse, aggregate, merge or otherwise prepare data for analysis. Kyle completes technical builds using a variety of different technologies for premium/loss, production and/or quote datasets in support of client activities. He works with team members to analyze state and line of business pricing initiatives and provide recommendations on ways in which clients can utilize insight to improve business performance. Kyle builds out analytical capabilities and performs ongoing ad-hoc analysis to assess clients' product performance and extract new product insights. Prior to MCA, Kyle spent 4 years at Central Connecticut State University earning a dual Bachelor's degree in marketing and business management, before earning a Master's degree in business analytics from CCSU. When Kyle isn't aggregating data, he enjoys spending his time writing and recording music, as he plays a few different instruments, including guitar and piano. He also enjoys watching and participating in sports. Growing up, he played soccer, basketball and ran track & field, and continued on to run cross country and track at the collegiate level and still enjoys running today. Additionally, for lunch he is known to order his sandwiches on gluten-free bread as a preference, not an allergy.

Lauren Herring

Lauren joined MCA in August 2021 to help with development and implementation of the company's marketing initiatives. She has been tasked with leading the brand development work necessary to create a consistent communications strategy to help increase brand awareness and build credibility for MCA throughout the Mutual Insurance industry. Since joining the team, she has identified and vetted talent to help develop MCA's marketing efforts including building a team of brand strategists, writers, designers, web developers and social media companies. Her responsibilities include developing scope of work proposals, as well as directing and managing outside vendors. Lauren also manages relations with industry associations and identifies sponsorship opportunities to help MCA promote its industry presence. Prior to joining the team at MCA, Lauren spent the last 20 years as a principal and project manager for HMG, a consultancy specializing in the delivery of complex projects in the communications and entertainment industry. She also has extensive experience as a project manager for a host of other companies including GAP Online and Foote Cone & Belding SF. Lauren enjoys spending her spare time with family and friends as well as traveling as often as possible, especially to the Bay Area. She enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities including hiking, snowboarding and gardening. You can often find her obsessing with her gardening friends over the latest dahlia variety they encounter.

Meagan Zwick - COO

Meagan joined the MCA team in 2021 and works closely with clients to evaluate data, products, processes, and systems to identify opportunities for improved profitability and growth. She helps carriers find creative, pragmatic solutions that take into consideration cost/benefit and feasibility within their existing infrastructure. By understanding the business challenges and strategies that our clients face, Meagan ensures they make the most informed decisions possible, without losing sight of their overarching goals and guiding principles. Meagan is experienced in leading change across large organizations, from creating new org structures and centralizing countrywide processes to introducing new 3rdparty data elements and tweaking system workflows. In closely partnering with client teams, Meagan develops an in-depth knowledge of client needs which leads to recommendations that contemplate current capabilities as well as future scalability. Prior to MCA, Meagan spent nine years at Travelers with roles in Actuarial, Product Management, and Business Model Effectiveness. She has experience across Personal Lines, Small Commercial, and Middle Market. When Meagan isn't using her creativity to help clients innovate and optimize, she loves to explore new styles and mediums of art, from watercolor paintings to building accent walls. She always carries one notebook for MCA notes and another for doodling, both with equally intriguing contents. Meagan also enjoys spending time with her family's Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers (Piper, Lily, and Clonkers) as well as her own daughter, Phoebe (a Sheepadoodle).

Rahul Sindvani

Rahul joined MCA in April of 2022 as a Product Manager, where he uses data and analytics to help clients quantify the current state and performance of their products, as well as develop strategies to drive profitable growth through enhanced product offerings. He has a knack for elucidating actionable insights from complex datasets and enjoys the challenges of working with unique data structures. Rahul is passionate about technology as it relates to analytics, and is always challenging himself to develop innovative, cutting-edge solutions to best serve his clients' needs. By jointly leveraging both client data and 3rd party data, Rahul helps clients level set their performance versus the industry, and ultimately develop plans to become more competitive. Prior to joining MCA, Rahul spent the first 2 years of his career at Travelers Insurance on the Commercial Auto Line Management team. In this role, he collaborated with various business partners to develop and implement unique profitable growth solutions that involved managing both the top and bottom line. Rahul also has experience with developing advanced analytics for new products during both the product development phase and the post-launch phase. Aside from his passion for analytics, Rahul enjoys traveling and immersing himself in foreign cultures across different countries. He is also an avid car enthusiast and a major Formula One fan.

Ricky Appel

Ricky joined the MCA team in July 2020, as a Product Manager where he uses analytics to drive data-driven decision making for product or process changes. These changes include introducing new rating variables, taking a segmented approach to pricing changes, or improving existing quote or renewal processes. Ricky collaborates with his clients to provide relevant data for decision making, assists through implementation, and monitors performance after changes are in market. Ricky has built a strong knowledge base of constructing a class plan and how the breadth of variables and underlying segmentation are positioned in the marketplace. Across all major lines of business, Ricky understands how most national or regional carriers are evolving their class plan over time. He has helped many clients modernize their product offering to position the rating algorithm in a more advantageous place in the market. This product evolution is perpetual and is a key contributor to enabling his clients to achieve profitable growth. Prior to joining the MCA team, Ricky spent the first three years of his career in product management at Travelers Insurance. His time was spent as an analyst on a regional small commercial product team managing the profit and loss across multiple lines of business. When Ricky steps away from work, his time is best spent playing with his dog Stanley. Stanley is a 50-pound lab rescue whose bark is sure to be heard on most zoom calls. Ricky played collegiate squash at Bryant University and still enjoys following the pro rankings. When New England weather cooperates, Ricky can be found on the fairway of local golf courses.

Tom Torcia

Tom joined MCA in November 2020 to help transform the mutual industry by leveraging data and analytics to compete more effectively. Tom's deep expertise in Product Management is integral in how he approaches every unique client challenge. Tom will work closely with clients to understand their performance, their people, and their culture to identify the right approach and find practical solutions for their business. Tom has partnered with clients to enhance product segmentation, increase growth, launch new class plans from ideation to implementation and many more. Once MCA brings a solution to market, Tom and his team continuously monitor and learn from the results to further refine product performance. In a constantly changing market, the ability to be successful long term requires a disciplined approach to product monitoring and ongoing optimization. Tom is experienced in Personal Lines, having managed product portfolios for both Auto and Property lines of business across a number of challenging regulatory and coastal markets. Tom has both the technical and leadership experience in markets across the country to help clients recognize and launch similar product capabilities that many of the large national carriers have already invested in. Prior to joining MCA, Tom spent 13 years at The Travelers. Most recently, Tom led the Emerging Auto team, focused on becoming an industry leader in the independent agency channel for the creation, adoption, and utilization of telematics. Building leading-edge offerings that combined digital assets, third-party data, advanced modeling techniques and enhanced pricing segmentation, his work led to the growth and expansion of Travelers' telematics program, with adoption growing over 300%. Tom and his wife have three young children and reside in West Hartford. When not thinking about insurance, you usually can find Tom either on a golf course working on his short game or at a nearby park catching the kids as they zoom down the slides.
