EDUARDO JOAQUIN

Born in the Philippines but raised on Oahu from an early age, Eduardo Joaquin is a Honolulu based contemporary figurative oil painter. Joaquin's work is characterized by the physicality of the oil paint medium, the organic character of his mark making, and the evocative capacity of color. Anchored by the western academic tradition of oil painting, Joaquin is conscious of the historical canon of his medium while relying on emotional and psychological responses to dictate his paintings. Joaquin has been recently reflecting upon diasporic identity through his work.
