Kamran joined Kid Risk in 2019 after a 25-year career in academic pathology, most recently as Professor and Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Kamran's current research is focused on analytical tools and methods in healthcare, including diagnostic medicine and public health.

A world leader in risk analysis and decision science, health policy, global health, and system dynamics, Kim created the Kids Risk Project at the Harvard School of Public Health in 2000, which she directed until 2009. She founded Kid Risk, Inc. as a non-profit organization in October 2008 to develop the field of pediatric risk analysis, empower children, parents, policy makers, and others to improve children's lives, inform decisions related to the management of children's risks, and promote children's health and well-being.
