Dr. Brian Hargrave

Dr. Brian Hargrave graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed his clinical year at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Hargrave is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and has a passion for providing comprehensive and compassionate care for his patients and clients. On his days off Dr. Hargrave enjoys spending time outdoors and spending time with his dogs.

Dr. Joseph Deme

Dr. Joseph Deme graduated from the University of Veterinary Sciences at Budapest, Hungary in 1988. He regularly attends many local, monthly continuing education courses, as well as regional, annual continuing education courses. Dr Deme is a member of the AVMA and completed one year of clinical experience at Iowa State University School of Veterinary Medicine. He is now one of our staff Veterinarians at the Mineola Animal Hospital, which opened in 2008.

Dr. Julie Vasilyeva

Dr. Julie Vasilyeva graduated from Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. Dr. Julie is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and accredited with the USDA. She has an interest in dermatology, internal medicine and implements low stress handling during appointments. In her spare time, Dr. Julie enjoys horseback riding, hiking and playing with her rambunctious cat, Godiva!

Dr. Kathrine Avelar

Dr. Katie Avelar graduated from Cornell University with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and has USDA APHIS accreditation. Her special interests include internal medicine, animal behavior and general dentistry. She loves spending time with her family in Florida. On her days off, she can be found playing tennis, knitting, eating at local bakeries, and going for a run with her quirky mutt, Oscar.

Dr. Lorraine Socci

Dr. Lorraine Socci joined Mineola Animal Hospital in October 2008. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 1983. She is a member of the American Medical Association, New York State Veterinary Medical Association, and attends yearly continuing education conferences. She has a special interest in emergency medicine, internal medicine, and shelter medicine.

Dr. Mara DiGrazia

Dr. Mara DiGrazia graduated from Cornell University in 1996. She completed a small animal medicine and surgical internship at Oradell AnimalHospital in 1997. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, New York State Veterinary Medical Association, and Long Island Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. DiGrazia has special interests in veterinary ultrasound and small animal ophthalmology. She was recently credited for supplying all Nassau County Fire Departments with animal oxygen masks through HELP Animals, Inc. She has been on the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association Executive Board since 2016 and is a member of the President's Council of Cornell Women since 2019.

Dr. Yuliya Bashkatova

Dr. Yuliya Bashkatova graduated from St. George's University in Grenada, West Indies in 2015. She completed her clinical year at University College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland. Dr. B. is interested in emergency medicine and internal medicine. She loves to travel and the outdoors. Dr. Bashkatova is accredited with the USDA for APHIS for Veterinary Professionals, and a member of AAHA, AVMA.

Ellen Tan

Dr. Tan knew from an early age that she wanted to be a veterinarian, so she was fortunate to be accepted into the Early Entry Program at Mississippi State University, where she earned her veterinary degree in 2004. She moved to Los Angeles for her internship at Animal Surgical and Emergency Center and continued to practice emergency medicine in California afterward. In 2008, she returned closer to home and practiced emergency and general medicine in NYC before joining Mineola Animal Hospital. Dr. Tan has also been the veterinarian for Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl for the past several years! This televised event is aired every year on Super Bowl Sunday.

Jen Lee

Jen attended St. Edwards University in Texas, then became an employee of New Hyde Park Animal Hospital, advancing to become the hospital's manager, remaining in that position for many years. Jen's additional experience includes successfully overseeing an oral surgery practice.

Lotus Altholtz

Dr. Lotus graduated from Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. She completed a residency program with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Rockefeller University and Weill Cornell Medical College through which she gained extensive experience with mice, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets, rabbits, sheep and pigs. She has a combined 20 years experience in general dog/cat veterinary practice/at home hospice and euthanasia, as a Lasix veterinarian for the New York Racing Association, and in cancer research for Merck, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Northwell Health and Hackensack Meridian Health. She gains the greatest satisfaction from strengthening the pet- owner bond by keeping pets happy and healthy and minimizing discomfort and stress. She lives in Sea Cliff, NY with her youngest daughter and mini lop rabbit Teddy.
