I'm an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown, and the Associate Medical Director of the Lifespan Adult Extracorporeal Life Support Program. My work aims to study and improve outcomes in patients treated with extracorporeal life support by leveraging bioinformatics techniques including machine learning.
Ali Bahrainian is a postdoctoral researcher at the AI Lab in joint collaboration with the machine learning and optimization lab at EPFL, Switzerland.
His current research focuses on natural language processing and machine learning for health-care applications. In particular, he works on developing models for customizable abstractive summarization of electronic health-care records. His broad research interests include machine learning, natural language processing, information retrieval and bioinformatics.
He is an alumnus of University of Lugano, Switzerland where he completd a PhD on just-in-time information retrieval and summarization for personal assistance.

Dr. Mercurio attended medical school at the Alpert Medical School at Brown University. She subsequently completed a Pediatrics Residency, followed by a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship, at Brown University/Hasbro Children's Hospital. During fellowship, she also completed a certificate in clinical and translational research in Public Health at Brown University.
Her research interests include machine learning, pediatric sepsis, clinical practice guideline development, and simulation education. She was awarded the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine Rising Star Fellowship Award for clinical and research excellence in 2019.
