David Moore

Qualifications BA (English Language) LLB Barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand David Moore has been an Intellectual Property practitioner for over 20 years and is a Director of Henry Hughes IP Ltd and Henry Hughes Law Ltd. He has practised in the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand, focusing on non-contentious intellectual property protection and commercialisation. David's expertise includes providing strategic advice on trade mark portfolio management, filing and prosecuting trade mark applications in multiple jurisdictions, advising on the availability and feasibility of new brands, managing trade mark opposition and revocation cases, conducting due diligence enquiries on target companies' intellectual property, negotiation and settlement of IP disputes and preparing multijurisdictional coexistence and settlement agreements. David also advises on and negotiates agreements relating to the licensing, transfer and commercialisation of intellectual property. David's experiences in Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East have given him an international perspective on intellectual property law. The nature of his experience means that David's advice on intellectual property is provided in the context of the client's broader position and commercial goals. David has been active in the International Trademark Association (INTA) for many years and is currently serving on the Publications Subcommittee. In 2021 David was elected the the New Zealand committee of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ). David also contributes to the formation of trade mark practice in New Zealand by participating in the IPONZ convened Trade Mark Technical Focus Group. David is a co-author of the trade mark section of the Lexis Practical Guidance, Intellectual Property module. Since 2011, David has been selected for inclusion in the World Trademark Review 1000, a publication featuring tiered rankings of the leading trade mark practitioners and firms around the world. David is described in the 2019 edition as "non-contentious doyen steeped in IP prosecution and commercialisation with experience working in Australia and the Middle East, which has given him an equally broad outlook." David has been named an IP Expert 2022 by AsiaIP. Since 2018, David Moore has volunteered as a mentor in Victoria University of Wellington's Alumni as Mentors programme. The programme carefully matches final-year students with alumni who are experienced in the student's areas of interest. The aim is to assist students with their transition into work life. The programme offers students the opportunity to gain a better understanding of what it is like to work in their chosen field. It also allows them to improve practical skills such as networking strategies, job interview techniques and CV preparation. As a mentor, David finds it a rewarding experience to give back to the next generation of law graduates, and to remain connected with the university community.

Elena is a Director of Henry Hughes IP Ltd and Henry Hughes Law Limited with over 20 years' experience working with local and global businesses in the development, establishment, management, exploitation and enforcement of intellectual property rights, specialising in trade marks. Elena Szentiványi is a Director of Henry Hughes IP Ltd and Henry Hughes Law Limited with over 20 years' experience working with local and global businesses in the development, establishment, management, exploitation and enforcement of intellectual property rights, specialising in trade marks and domain names. Elena qualified by examination as a Trade Mark Attorney in Australia in 2009. She is also registered as a Patent Attorney in New Zealand and Australia. Clients represented by Elena operate in a range of industries, and include pharmaceutical, fast-moving consumer goods, food products, cosmetics, sporting, fashion, IT, financial, entertainment, wine and hospitality industries. Elena is a Fellow of NZIPA (New Zealand Intellectual Property Attorneys Inc) and in November 2009 joined the NZIPA Council. Elena was the president of the NZIPA Council August 2021 to September 2023 and is currently the immediate past president of NZIPA.
