WESI GEOTECNICA - Key Persons

Ayman A. Abed

Job Titles:
  • Lead Analyst
  • Specialist
Ayman obtained his Diploma in Civil Engineering from Baath University, Syria, with a dissertation on the mechanical behaviour of foundations on expansive soils. In the same University he worked as teaching assistant in the courses Soil mechanics and Foundation Design. After his graduation, he obtained a Master of Science in Geotechnical Engineering. Moreover, in 2008 he obtained a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Stuttgart, Germany. Ayman specializes in the application of numerical methods in Geotechnical Engineering, and he is author and co-author of several papers in journals and technical conferences. In particular, his field of expertise is the numerical modelling of unsaturated soils, for which he developed and implemented an original anisotropic constitutive model. Ayman is a specialist of numerical modelling unsaturated groundwater flow, which was also the topic of his PhD thesis at the Uni of Stuttgart. After a teaching experience at the Baath University in Syria, he has been with WeSI Geotecnica since 2013.

Lorenzo Leoni - Managing Director

Job Titles:
  • Managing Director
Following the degree in Civil Engineering obtained at the University of Parma, Lorenzo obtained a MSc in Geotechnics from the University of Strathclyde in 2009. In the same year, he co-founded the company WeSI Geotecnica Srl together with his brother and colleague Martino. Since then Lorenzo has been working at WeSI Geotecnica as Numerical Analyst. Due to the experience gained at Strathclyde, he has specialized in geotechnical design thus including site investigation planning and in the interpretation of in-situ and laboratory tests with particular focus on the identification of soil parameters. Since the inception of WeSI Geotecnica Lorenzo has taken part in numerical modelling of geotechnical engineering problems and has acted as tutor in computational geotechnics courses. After completing his studies in Parma, where he got a degree in Civil Engineering in 2006, Lorenzo obtained a MSc in Geotechnics at the University of Strathclyde. In 2009 he co-founded the company WeSI Geotecnica where he has been working thereafter.

Martino Leoni - Managing Director

Job Titles:
  • Managing Director
Martino got his PhD form the University of Parma in 2005, with a thesis on the implementation and use of constitutive models for Geotechnical Engineering, under the guidance of prof. Lorella Montrasio. Thereafter, he moved to Stuttgart for a four-years Post-Doc under the guidance of prof. Pieter Vermeer. During his Post-Doc he was involved in the EU-funded research training network AMGISS (Advanced Modelling of Ground Improvement of Soft Soil) and in the numerical analysis of the creep behaviour of Leaning Tower of Pisa. In 2009 Martino co-founded the company Wechselwirkung Studio Italiano Snc with his brother Lorenzo and then, in 2010, founded the stand-alone company WeSI Geotecnica Srl. Since then, he has been acting as Managing Director and Lead Analyst of Wesi Geotecnica taking part in several projects involving traditional and advanced geotechnical analysis. He is also leader of the Research and Development activities, as coordinator of Manunet DAS-NAG project and reference person for COGAN project, in which WeSI Geotecnica acted as core partner. In 2013 WeSI Geotecnica co-founded the Hygest consortium for numerical analysis in Engineering together with the partner company OAC Ingegneria. Martino is in the Board of Directors of Hygest in charge of Geotechnical Engineering sector. As of 2017, he was appointed Adjunct Professor at the University of Genoa, lecturing the course "Geotechnical Numerical Modelling", II year Master program in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Martino received a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering in 2005. He spent four years at the University of Stuttgart as Post-doc researcher and thereafter founded WeSI Geotecnica together with Lorenzo. He specializes in modelling of creep in soft soils.
