DAVID BANKS

Dave has over 30 years professional hydrogeology experience from all sectors: consultancy, research, public and academia. It was also while working in Norway that Dave first became interested in ground source heating and cooling. It took several months to convince him that heat pumps really did work! On his return to the UK , Dave took up the challenge of persuading Britons that ground source heating and cooling could also be of relevance to their foggy & chilly island. The majority of Dave's work with Carbon Zero involves some form of thermogeological consultancy, modelling, calculation - and training. Dave has particular experience of mine water based thermal systems.

DR ANNA HITCHMOUGH

Following her PhD at Birmingham University, Anna has been working as a hydrogeologist for 23 years in the fields of water resources, ground source heat pumps and contaminated land. DR ROBIN CURTIS

Carbon Zero Consulting > Team Members > Carbon Zero Consulting > Associates > DR ROBIN CURTIS Robin is Director of GeoScience Ltd based in Falmouth, Cornwall. He became involved in geothermal energy in 1984, working at the UK Hot Dry Rock Geothermal Project in Cornwall. He subsequently developed an interest in GSHP technology and since 1992 has been responsible for the promotion of these systems ever since.. He is widely known as the foremost technical specialist on GSHP systems in the UK. He has been involved in the design, installation and commissioning of a wide variety of GSHP systems ranging from the smallest social housing installations through to some of the largest closed loop projects in the UK to date.

GEORGE CHANTLER

Following completion of his degree in geology at Keele University, George began work at Carbon Zero Consulting in August 2023. As our resident Graduate Geologist, George can normally be found carrying out various field activities including: Thermal Response Tests (TRT) of boreholes Water feature surveys Sampling of surface water, groundwater and drinking water supplies When in the office, George is usually: Writing reports Analysing data Creating figures Programming software and keeping our website up to date

HUW WILLIAMS

Carbon Zero Consulting > Team Members > Carbon Zero Consulting > Associates > HUW WILLIAMS Hailing from the heart of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site, Huw brings to bear a life-long passion for all things geological, along with his experience in the regulatory and private consultancy sectors to all aspects of his work. Huw's main areas of experience are in groundwater impact assessment and groundwater resource management, utilising strong skills in site investigation data analysis and interpretation for groundwater conceptual and numerical modelling. Huw has gained specialist global experience in the evaluation of the impact on groundwater due to the operation of Ground Source Heat Pump systems using coupled groundwater flow and heat transport numerical modelling in addition to assessment of dewatering and depressurisation. Conceptual modelling of complex systems has been achieved through a pragmatic approach, leading to the appropriate and proportioned construction and running of numerical groundwater models.

JOHN FINDLAY

John is MD of Carbon Zero Consulting, now a part of RSK Environment Ltd. John is a Chartered Engineer with 40 years' of international engineering project management and geosciences experience. His work has ranged from oil exploration and water resource management to renewable energy design and installation. John has played a major role in the development of Ground Source Heating and Cooling (GSHC) technology in the UK. This has included close involvement in many of the UK's larger public and private sector schemes. John is a council member and past Chairman of the GSHPA, engaged with the development of technical Standards and liaison with the Environment Agency and BGS. He has also has significant involvement with drafting of GSHPA/CIBSE codes of practice CP2 and CP3 and TM51. John has been involved in many of the practical details of GSHC scheme design from feasibility through to commissioning and monitoring of performance. Some of these schemes are the largest currently in place in the UK supplying heat (and cooling) to large public and private sector buildings such as schools, colleges, offices, retail, horticulture, and leisure developments. With an exemplary track record, John Findlay is a well-known figure in GSHP and groundwater-supply sectors. Beyond the working day, John lives in Cornwall is a keen sea-swimmer and walker and half-decent golfer. He is also an active member of the world-famous Mousehole Male Voice Choir.

LAURA BISHOP

Laura was recently elected to the position of chair of the Ground Source Heat Pumps Association and has spent over 14 years working for blue chip companies. As a chartered mechanical engineer with the IMechE and a BSc in Computer Aided Product Design, Laura has also completed a MSc in Renewable Energy Systems Technology. With a passion for delivering green solutions, Laura has led a number of projects including large scale ground source heat pumps for heating and cooling. With an extensive network of contacts, Laura can deliver pricing and support information for a project of any size. With a keen interest in the future of engineering, Laura plays an active role as a STEM ambassador and regularly goes into schools to encourage young people to consider a career in engineering.

LAWRENCE SCOTT

Lawrence has 9-years' experience with Carbon Zero Consulting following a Masters in Geology from the University of Plymouth. He now runs Aquifer Energy and works with us as an associate.
