Pauline Whelan - CTO

Dr Whelan is a computer scientist with over 20 years' experience in both commercial and academic settings. Having started her career in software development for multinational companies, her postgraduate studies in Psychology and Policy led her to the field of digital health. Today, Pauline is the Digital Health Technical Lead at the University of Manchester responsible for a portfolio of digital health products. In this role she led the development team of CFHealthHub, a digital health platform to support people with Cystic Fibrosis; the platform is now in use in more than 60% of adult Cystic Fibrosis centres in the UK. Dr Whelan is the Digital Director of the GM Digital Unit at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust focusing on the design, evaluation and implementation of digital mental health solutions for real-world clinical delivery.

Sandra Bucci

Professor Bucci is the first ever NIHR Research Professor in Digital Mental Health in the UK, Professor of Clinical Psychology at The University of Manchester, and Honorary Consultant Clinical Psychologist at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH). With over 20 years clinical experience working with people with complex mental health needs, Sandra is also co-Director of the Complex Trauma and Resilience Research Unit in GMMH. Sandra is the inventor of Actissist, a CBT app for psychosis and is recognised as a pioneering world leader in digital health interventions in SMI. She has been recognised as one of the "Top 30 Women in Science" and holds a vast number of competitive research grants as Principal Investigator from all the major research funders in the UK, including the National Institute of Health Research, Wellcome Trust and the Medical Research Council. She is Editor-in-Chief of the British Psychological Society Journal Psychology and Psychotherapy: Theory, Research and Practice. At The University of Manchester, Sandra leads a programme of research focused on developing digital solutions for people with severe mental health problems. Her primary research interests are in developing digital care pathways and using remote monitoring and intervention methods to improve detection and treatment of severe mental health problems. She is also interested in understanding the psychological and social mechanisms involved in the development and maintenance of severe mental health problems.
