Angie Zurek

Angie joined YMS as Administrator in January 2020. Angie previously worked in procurement for the water industry for over 30 years.

Dr Barbara Adams

Barbara is currently working as an Out of Hours GP with Harrogate District Foundation Trust and Vocare in York. She is also a clinical supervisor for GP registrars.

Dr Dariush Saeedi

Job Titles:

Dariush is a GP partner in a semi-rural practice on the outskirts of York. Dariush graduated from The University of Leeds Medical School, and has worked in various specialities in West Yorkshire, before moving to North Yorkshire in 2014 after qualifying as a GP. Dariush is a keen advocate for the role of general practice in the NHS, and is a registered GP trainer. He also is involved in undergraduate education through his role working at the University of Leeds, where he is Clinical Placements Co-lead. Dariush sits on the local medical committee as a Vale of York representative. Outside of medicine, Dariush's interests include time with his family, the history of medicine, and tending to the varying demands of his smallholding (and associated menagerie).

Dr John Reid - Treasurer

John is a largely retired GP having worked in Selby for 35 years. Currently I am doing some part time GP work in remote and rural Scotland, as well as teaching year 2 students at HYMS. He is married with 3 daughters, and hopefully soon a 1st grandchild. He lives near Selby and is an ex President of YORK Medical Society.

Dr Judith Boffa

Dr Kathryn Griffith

Job Titles:

Kathryn is a a retired GP and also worked for many years as a GP specialist in Cardiology at York Hospital. She was  President of the Medical Society in 2014-15 and is now Honorary Secretary. She believes that the Society is an important living group of doctors not just a beautiful historic building!!

Dr Mark Roman

Mark qualified from the Westminster in 1982, did his GP training in York and was a Partner at York Medical Group for over 29 years before joining the Yorkshire Chambers as a Locum.  During his career he has developed many clinical interests  including GP training,  Research as well as Foundation Lead for Primary Care.   He is married with 3 children, lives in York and enjoys keeping fit with cycling and running. 

Dr Sarah Watson

I am a GP Partner at Millfield Surgery, Easingwold, a market town 10 miles North of York and a Honorary tutor at HYMS, involved in teaching 4th year medical students. I went to St Andrews and Manchester Medical School, qualifying in 1996. I have worked in Chester, New Zealand and did my GP training in York. I was one of the youngest Presidents of the Medical Society in 2018-19 and now chair the Social Committee.

Dr Stuart Calder

Stuart Calder is a retired GP and medical educationalist, who continues to lecture in Medical Ethics.  He founded the York Medical Society Wine Club forty years ago and travels to France and Italy each year to source wines for the club's list.

Dr Tim Hughes

GP Kirkbymoorside 30 years.Tim is a retired GP from Tenby, Pembrokeshire who having qualified at St Bartholomew's Hospital London in 1984, trained as a GP in Exeter and moved to Kirkbymoorside, Ryedale where he was a GP partner for 30 years. He has been a GP trainer, Clinical tutor, Educational supervisor and GP appraiser and had various NHS management roles and responsibilities during the many ‘reforms' seen over the three decades in practice. He is married to Ania, a retired nurse/midwife, and has four grown up sons. Now living in York, as well as enjoying the many benefits of the YMS he cycles with the Wednesday Wheelers and North Yorkshire CTC, runs and walks and sails and volunteers

Dr Will Robertson

Whilst most of my time is spent working and improving the NHS, I have a growing interest for developing a parallel private model of Private General Practice which offers personal and prestige care to people that are looking to move outside of the public system. Allowing people who can afford to choose between private and NHS care will free up space for those who cannot.

Jim Drife

  • Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Leeds
Jim Drife is emeritus professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Leeds and a former BMJ columnist.  He has been a consultant to the World Health Organisation and a vice-president of the RCOG, and has appeared several times on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Miss Susan Mitchell - President

Qualified in 1981 from The London Hospital Medical School. Held a few junior posts around the east end before deciding to follow a career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology training in St. Marys Hospital, The Royal Marsden, Addenbrookes and the Rosie Maternity Hospital Cambridge, and St George's Hospital and Chertsey. In Cambridge also worked in molecular biology research with Prostaglandins and the endometrium and ran menopause research clinic for over a year. Moved to York in 1995 as a consultant during which was the clinical Director of women's services for 5 years. Continued as a general consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology running the diabetic antenatal clinic throughout, and having a continued interest in the menopause. Retired in 2017 to follow interests in art, walking, skiing, travelling and the garden. Has 2 sons both having careers in economics and finance.

Mr David Pring

David Pring was appointed Consultant in York in 1988.He had a special interest in fertility and Gynaecological Endocrinology and postgraduate  training. He had a longstanding interest in medical politics and represented Yorkshire on the BMA Central Consultants Committee. He retired from clinical practice in 2010 and continued to work as a panellist for the GMC. He has had a longstanding interest in the history of Medicine and is honorary curator of instruments of the York Medical Society.

Mrs Sarah Anderson

Sarah Anderson is a Consultant Ophthalmologist in York with a sub-speciality interest in Emergency Eye Care. She provides IT and social media support to YMS.
