Alex joined the IFS in 2019 and works on publishing new research and developing digital channels for the IFS.
Alex joined the IFS in May 2019. He produces and edits the IFS podcast, IFS Zooms In, and leads on video production. His role also involves developing digital channels for the IFS and exploring new formats. He has previously worked on digital content and strategy for an online radio station and a community solar non-profit.

Anna joined the IFS in 2023 as a Research Economist. Her research is split across two main sectors. The first sector is Income, Work & Welfare; here her research focuses on the UK tax and benefit system and inequality. As part of the Retirement, Savings & Ageing sector, her research involves later-life economic outcomes and wellbeing. Prior to joining the IFS, she completed an MPhil in Economics at the University of Cambridge.

Bonnie joined in 2003 and is the Head of Communications, managing the communications team to ensure the research achieves a wide and enduring impact.
Bonnie is Head of Communications at IFS and joined the Institute in 2003. She is responsible for the Institutes' external communications strategy and has overall responsibility for the IFS website, press, public affairs, events, social media, publications and membership (individual and corporate). She manages a small communications team to ensure that IFS research achieves wide and enduring impact.
Bonnie is first port of call for public affairs and strategic partnerships and also manages the ESRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) at IFS, providing over £1m of additional funding for impact and engagement activities.
Before joining IFS, Bonnie worked at Help the Aged (now part of Age UK) and co-ordinated a wide range of events and engagement activities.

Carl, a Deputy Director, is an editor of the IFS Green Budget, an expert on the UK pension system and sits on the Social Security Advisory Committee.
IFS Deputy Director Carl Emmerson responds to the announcement ahead of the Spring Budget of an increase to the lifetime allowance for pension saving.
Carl is Deputy Director of the IFS, a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, an editor of the annual IFS Green Budget and a Director of the Pensions Review. His research includes issues around the UK's public finances, and household retirement saving decisions.
He is also a member of the Social Security Advisory Committee, the advisory panel of the Office for Budget Responsibility, and the UK Statistics Authority's Methodological Assurance Review Panel. He previously served as a specialist advisor to the House of Commons Work and Pensions Select Committee.

Deputy Director Carl Emmerson has been elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.

Caroline was a prominent figure in auditing for more than 20 years as Assistant Auditor General in the National Audit Office and she now has a number of non-executive roles. As well as her role at IFS, she is currently a Governor of Kingston University and a member of their audit committee, a member of the Audit Board of the European Audio Visual Observatory. She is also a trustee of the Wimbledon Guild which is a local charity.
For eight years, until 2019, Caroline was one of three external members of the Audit Progress Committee of the European Commission. She has also been a member of the Audit Committees of the City of London (until March 2021), the UK Debt Management Office (until June 2019) and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (until 2016). She was the Treasurer of the charity Breast Cancer Now for several years.
During her executive career in the National Audit Office, and also as President of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, she played a significant role in the development of strong financial management in the public sector. Caroline is a geography graduate from Bristol University and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced his Autumn 2021 Budget and Spending Review on Wednesday 27 October. David is a Trustee of The Institute for Fiscal Studies, Pro Bono Economics and Windsor Leadership Trust; a Director of The Barclays Women's Super League; Chair of the Gregson Family Foundation and of #BeeWell (which is seeking to improve the wellbeing of young people, initially in Greater Manchester, and now also across Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton); Advisor to the Sutton Trust (which seeks to improve social mobility through education), The Productivity Institute and Phoenix Equity Partners (a leading mid-market private equity group); and a member of the Advisory Board of Alliance Manchester Business School. Previously, David was a co-founder and Chairman of Phoenix.
Over his career, he has been a director or Chairman of some thirty-five companies or charities. Most recently, David has been Chairman of the LTA, which is responsible for tennis in Britain; Chairman of CGL, the UK's largest social and health care charity; and a Director of LLDC, which has been transforming East London following the 2012 Games. David has an MBA from Alliance Manchester Business School and an MA in Maths and Physics from Cambridge University.
David is based in The Hague in The Netherlands, and commutes backwards and forwards to the UK regularly. He is married to Renee, with three grown-up children. David's interests revolve around his family, sports and politics. David is determined to seek to make a positive difference to the lives of young people in England (education is devolved); support improvements to the healthcare system in England; and try and help efforts to understand and thereby improve Britain's low productivity.

Dermot joined the IFS in 2019 and is responsible for digital strategy and delivery across the organisation. This covers user experience, traffic and overall engagement. This means making sure that as many people as possible find us online and that they have a good experience of us while using these services.
Previously, Dermot has led on Digital Change for Asthma UK, as well as being partner lead on innovation projects with organisations such as Public Health England, the University of Exeter and the Met Office.
Before that, he led on digital as part of the startup team on The Big Bang Fair, which became the largest celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) for young people in the UK.
Earlier he worked at Penguin Books, creating and publishing digital content, where he was part of the team that introduced consumer ebooks to the UK.

Britta is an IFS Associate Director, Associate Staff at the Department of Economics at the UC and Researcher at NIHR Obesity Policy Research Unit.
Britta Augsburg is Associate Director at the Institute for Fiscal Studies. She is an applied development economist, with a particular interest in environmental influences on child (health) outcomes, how they interact with other inputs - such as nutrition and stimulation -, and how policy can be used to target improvements in a child's environment. She has 15 years' experience in design and implementation of complex evaluations in LMIC's, including India, Pakistan, Nigeria and Mongolia. Recent studies have focused on understanding both demand and supply constraints for poor households to improve their sanitation environment.

Emily joined the IFS in 2022 following the completion of her master's degree in Social Policy and Social Research at UCL. She is responsible for coordinating funding proposals and managing multiple in-flight research grants, including the IFS's Impact Acceleration Account. Emma is Head of Operations at IFS. She is responsible for the dissemination of research findings to academic and policy audiences. This includes managing the marketing and design of IFS publications and the website, organisation of and recruitment to the corporate membership scheme, and publicity and the press office. Emma previously worked in academic reference for Macmillan Publishers, before joining the IFS as Marketing and Publicity Officer in 1998.
