As small, nimble firm we work collaboratively with architects and the design team to find a find a beautiful and high-performance design. We have pioneered new methods of energy conservation, production and analysis; lighting and daylighting design and analysis; and the design and fabrication of light emitting and controlling elements including light sculptures. We work closely with university researchers, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, and other research institutions to apply the most sophisticated and appropriate tools and technology to the design of high-performance buildings. Our practice recognizes that a significant role of a building is to providing a place for humans to live comfortably and with awareness between the earth and sky... We aspire to design buildings that can "sail". Just as a sailboat is designed to use the wind to move and is operated in response to wind shifts and weather, a building should be working with the natural energies on site to keep the occupants..
