Dr Amit Bhasin

Amit Bhasin is the project manager of MCDC and has been working at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine since 2002. He was initially part of the management team of the of the Gates Malaria Partnership (GMP), a major capacity strengthening programme, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which worked across 15 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and which was the precursor to MCDC. He gained a PhD in 1996 from the University of Aberdeen where he investigated the role of host derived odours in the host-seeking behaviour of biting midges. He subsequently completed a three year post-doctoral training fellowship at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, where he was involved in a project, working in Mali, which investigated whether female mosquitoes use aestivation as a survival mechanism during the dry season.

Hazel McCullough is the Professional Development and Educational Advisor on the Malaria Capacity Development Consortium (MCDC) programme based at the Université de Dakar (Senegal). She qualified in nursing at the Royal Brompton Hospital (London) and after a long career in the NHS as a community nurse, senior nurse manager and project lead, she moved into higher education as a senior lecturer and later deputy head of practice learning at the University of Chester. She is also an educational supervisor on the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine's Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching (PGCILT) programme and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Karen Slater is PA to Professor Brian Greenwood. She trained in London and has worked in various sectors both in the UK and overseas (Thailand and Australia). She joined MCDC in 2006.

Prof Brian Greenwood

Brian Greenwood is Professor of Clinical Tropical Medicine at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine where he has worked since 1995. He qualified in medicine at the University of Cambridge in 1962 and did his initial training in London. He then spent 14 years in Nigeria, first at University College, Ibadan and then at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria followed by 16 years in The Gambia where he directed the UK's Medical Research Council Laboratories. His main research interests are malaria, pneumonia and meningitis in young children. He is the PI for MCDC.

David Schellenberg is Professor of Malaria and International Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. He is Deputy Director of the Malaria Capacity Development Consortium. David directs the ACT consortium, which is answering key questions on malaria drug delivery by optimising the use of rapid diagnostic tests to improve targeting of treatment, and facilitating access to effective anti-malarial drugs, particularly the artemesinin-based Combination Therapies (ACTs). The Consortium includes pharmacovigilance and drug quality monitoring components amongst its 14 projects in 10 countries. David has an interest in malaria vaccine development and works on behalf of the Malaria Vaccine Initiative to support the RTS,S clinical development program.
