Dr Martha Des Vignes

Dr. Des Vignes is a Senior Tutor II and the Course Director for Civil Procedure and Practice I at the Hugh Wooding Law School. Dr. Des Vignes was admitted to practice in Trinidad and Tobago in 1998. She worked as an associate at the firm of Fitzwilliam, Stone and Furness-Smith for three years and as Legal Counsel for BWIA/Caribbean Airlines for four years. She also spent a number of years in private practice where her primary areas of practice were civil and family litigation as well as probate and commercial related matters. The June Renie Law Library of the Hugh Wooding Law School is housed on two floors in the Law School's building. Lyndon Richard Abdool has served as Manager of Quality Assurance, Research and Effectiveness at the Council of Legal Education, Hugh Wooding Law School since 2013. In this role, he manages all aspects of quality assurance (QA), monitoring and quality reviews, and institutional research. Mr Abdool has over 18 years of diverse experience spanning quality assurance bodies and higher education institutions. He offers extensive expertise in policy development, institutional accreditation, and strategic management. Mr Abdool served as Vice President of the Caribbean Area Network for Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education (2017 to 2019). He currently serves as a Board Member and supports the development of QA throughout the Caribbean region. Mr Abdool holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration (Hons) and an International Master of Business Administration (Distinction). He is pursuing doctoral research on strategy implementation and institutional performance in higher education institutions. A recognised presenter, Mr Abdool, has delivered papers on quality assurance at regional conferences. In 2015, he received the Presidential Scholarship from the Association for Institutional Research, enabling him to pursue professional development in data management and learning objectives. Mr Roger Ramgoolam is a graduate of The UWI, St Augustine holding a Bachelor of Laws degree. He received his Legal Education Certificate from Hugh Wooding Law School in 1997. Mr Ramgoolam was employed at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for four years, was in private practice for six years and a Magistrate for three years. He was appointed to the academic staff of the Law School in 2012. In 2013, he obtained a Master of Laws degree in Public Law from the UWI. Mr Roshan Ramcharitar is a full time tutor in the Legal Aid Clinic since 2019 and an associate tutor in Ethics, Rights and Obligations of the Legal Profession. Mr Ramcharitar started his legal career as a Judicial Research Assistant at the Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago where he worked with judges in the civil and criminal jurisdictions. He then spent 5 years as State Counsel in the Solicitor General's Department where he appeared as an advocate in a range of civil and public law matters. He has also tutored law at UWI. Mrs Aberleen Boodoosingh was admitted to practice in Trinidad and Tobago. She graduated from the Hugh Wooding Law School with a Certificate of Merit in 2004. Mrs Boodoosingh was employed in private practice prior to joining the faculty at the Law School in a part-time capacity in 2014 and full-time from 2021. Candice Jones-Simmons is a former adjunct lecturer and tutor at the Faculty of Law, University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, where she lectured the law of real property for over 10 years. Her passion for this area of law was supported by her experience in the practice of conveyancing and her role as a former partner and head of the property and estates department at a highly regarded law firm in Trinidad and Tobago. Her interest in the practice of landlord and tenant stems from her years of advising both residential and commercial landlords and tenants. She has also advised various financial institutions, corporate clients, real estate agents, and other various parties in the conduct of real estate transactions. Candice is a member of the Corporate, Commercial, and Conveyancing Committee of the Trinidad and Tobago Law Association.

Mrs. Kerry-Ann Paula Harrison was admitted to practice law in the year 2006. Before joining the Hugh Wooding Law School, in 2013, she worked in private practice where she practiced in the civil law dimension, working in civil litigation, corporate law, industrial relations, family law, environmental law and aviation law. Mrs. Harrison first taught in the Legal Aid Department, where she was responsible for teaching a General Law Clinic and the Environmental Law Clinic. In 2019, she was made the Course Director for Legal Drafting and Interpretation. Mrs. Harrison has served her country as a former Director of the Agricultural Development Bank, the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority, the Caribbean Air Navigation Advisory Authority, the Emperor Valley Zoo, the Zoological Society of Trinidad and Tobago, the Horticultural Society of Trinidad and Tobago and the International Wine Guild (Caribbean). She has worked on various cabinet appointed committees as well as appeared before Joint Select Committees of Parliament on various national issues. Mrs. Harrison is a proud Rotarian and is a past Rotary President of the Rotary Club of San Juan and is a Paul Harris Fellow. Mrs. Cheryl-Ann Jerome Alexander is a graduate of Hugh Wooding Law School. She joined the employ of the Council of Legal Education in 1999, 8 years after being called to the bar in Trinidad and Tobago. She taught at Eugene Dupuch Law School for three years and joined the staff of Hugh Wooding Law School in 2002. Her teaching focus has been in the area of property law. In her 23 years with the Council of Legal Education, she has taught Conveyancing & Registration of Title (Eugene Dupuch Law School), Law of Remedies (Eugene Dupuch Law School, Hugh Wooding Law School) and Landlord & Tenant (Hugh Wooding Law School). Kavita Deochan is an Attorney-at-law called to the bar in Trinidad and Tobago. She is the holder of a Bachelor's in Education, a Bachelor of Laws degree from The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill and a Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School. She also has a master's degree in Public International Law from the University of London. Ms. Deochan is presently an attorney-at-Law and Tutor at the Legal Aid Clinic of the Hugh Wooding Law School. Prior to joining the Legal Aid Clinic, Ms. Deochan was a Junior Counsel in the Chambers of Mr. Kerwyn Garcia, S.C. At this Chambers, she provided support to Senior Advocate Attorney-at-Law in matters before the Industrial Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. Ms. Deochan was also employed as a Judicial Counsel at the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) and a Judicial Research Counsel at the Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago. At the CCJ, Ms. Deochan was involved in numerous committees and was a member of the steering committee of the CCJ Academy for Law, which is the educational arm of the Court. Ms. Deochan also played a fundamental role in the Academy's Eminent Caribbean Jurists series aimed at commemorating and documenting the work of the region's eminent jurists in various fields of law. Ms. Deochan was also one of the Facilitators engaged in judicial training for the Judiciary of the Bahamas with The Caribbean Association for Judicial Officers (CAJO), and was part of the CAJO research and writing team that developed the Criminal Bench Book for Barbados, Belize, and Guyana. She has a passion for advocacy, and has been actively engaged in regional organisations working on law reform, championing of human rights cases, and the promotion of gender equality, human rights education and training and publications within the Caribbean region.

Ms. Lauren Raghubir has over 15 years working experience in the field of research in institutions for Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Academic/Tertiary education. Since 2015, she has been employed with the Council of Legal Education, Hugh Wooding Law School (CLE-HWLS). Her duties involve research implementation, research planning and design, data processing, data analysis and report writing. Ms. Raghubir holds a Masters of Arts degree in Educational Psychology, from Andrews University, Berrrien Springs, Michigan, and a Bachelors of Arts degree in Literatures in English with Psychology, from The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad. Currently, Ms. Raghubir is pursuing a Doctor of Education, Educational Leadership (Higher Education) with The University of the West Indies, Open Campus. Through extensive training and successful completion of certificate programmes, Ms. Raghubir possesses considerable knowledge in areas of Research and Statistics, Quality Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Teaching and Learning and Mediation. Ms. Raghubir also does voluntary work in personal counselling and mediation (Civil Non-Family Matters and Family Mediation). Lisa Ramjattan joined the HWLS team in 2019 as our HR Manager. She brings with her over 16 years of experience in the HR field. At HWLS, she provides guidance on all HR functions inclusive of developing and maintaining a performance management culture, building staff capacity through learning and development initiatives and championing employee engagement activities. Prior to joining the team, she worked for the Massy Group of companies as a HR Team Leader and prior to that she was the Assistant Manager of Recruitment, Selection and Staffing at Scotiabank. Lisa was also part of the adjunct faculty with the University of the West Indies and COSTAATT for 12 years. Ms. Ramjattan is a holder of a holder of a BSc degree in Sociology and Management Studies from the University of the West Indies, a Masters of Human Resource Management from the Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the West Indies. She is a Senior Certified Professional with the Society of Human Resource Management and is a certified change specialist with PROSCI.
