Alla Hill (she/her) is a Science Policy Associate within the Science Department. In this role, she works closely with program teams to review and develop evidence-based materials and messages to inform strategy across five primary areas: Healthy Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Health Disclosures, Healthy Retail, Restaurant Kids Meals, and School Foods. Prior experience Alla is a nutrition researcher with a background in community nutrition and food security research. She aims to support robust nutrition and public health policy to promote food security, reduce health disparities, and increase equity in access to nutrition services. Alla holds a Ph.D. in Nutrition from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a B.S. in Nutrition and Foods with a concentration in Dietetics from Appalachian State University, and is a Registered Dietitian.

Anupama Joshi

Anupama Joshi (she/her/hers) leads CSPI's program strategy on national, state, and local policy advocacy; legislative campaigns; and regulatory affairs to support equitable access to healthy, affordable, and sustainable food. She oversees projects on a wide range of issue areas such as school nutrition, healthy food access, food retail, food service guidelines, pouring rights, labeling, corporate engagement, food safety, additives, dietary supplements, and agricultural biotechnology. Prior experience Anupama is an experienced leader driving evidence-based policies, programs, and funding in the nutrition, public health, agriculture, and environmental sectors. Previously, Anupama was executive director of the Blue Sky Funders Forum (a working group of the Environmental Grantmakers Association). Prior to that, Joshi was the founding executive director of the National Farm to School Network, where she successfully built cross-sectoral partnerships, scaled up program models, and advocated for local, state, and federal policies. She holds an MS in nutrition from M.S. University in Baroda, India, and spent the first part of her career on related projects in India, Thailand, and Malaysia. She is co-author of Food Justice (MIT Press, 2010).

Ashley Hickson (she/her/hers) leads efforts to build internal capacity and create an ecosystem of strategic partnerships in the areas of equity, justice, and social impact. Prior experience Prior to joining CSPI, Ashley served as Director of Community Impact at the American Heart Association where she oversaw her market's food insecurity strategy through community-level policy, systems, and environmental change approaches. She holds an MPH from the University of Texas Health Science Center and dual degrees (BBA/BS) from the University of Texas at Austin. She earned a Doctorate of Public Health with a concentration in Health Equity and Social Justice from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Bonnie Liebman

Bonnie Liebman (she/her) has been the key link in formulating CSPI's policies on diet and health. She provides the scientific input on many of the organization's administrative petitions and legislative proposals. Bonnie is the author of numerous articles on diet and cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, memory loss, and other illnesses for Nutrition Action, which has roughly 400,000 readers nationwide. She served on the advisory committees that issued the American Cancer Society's 2001 and 1996 Guidelines on Nutrition and Physical Activity for Cancer Prevention. Prior experience Bonnie holds an M.S. in nutritional sciences from Cornell University.

David Rousseau

David Rousseau, MPH, is Vice President and Executive Director of Health Policy Media and Technology and Publisher of Kaiser Health News. He oversees KFF's health policy media programs, including Kaiser Health News and all journalism programs, and directs the Foundation's technology and online activities. Previously, Mr. Rousseau was Director of KFF's statehealthfacts.org project and was an Associate Director of KFF's Program on Medicaid and the Uninsured (KPMU). His work at KPMU was focused on Medicaid and CHIP spending, financing and enrollment, as well as Medicaid service delivery issues, including managed care. He has also managed a range of projects relating to health reform, access to care and health spending. Mr. Rousseau currently serves as the Chair of the Media Impact Funders Board, is a member of the boards of Grantmakers in Health (GIH) and the National Academy of State Health Policy (NASHP), and advises Crisis Text Line on data ethics issues. Mr. Rousseau has been a member of the adjunct faculty of the George Washington University School of Public Health as a Lecturer in the department of Health Policy, and has served on numerous task forces and advisory groups for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the National Academy of Sciences, and the City of New Orleans (David's hometown). His work has appeared in journals including Health Affairs and the Journal of the American Medical Association, where he created and edits the monthly "Visualizing Health Policy" series in partnership with the Journal. He has spoken on health policy and journalism topics at a wide range of conferences and events. Prior to joining the Foundation, Mr. Rousseau worked as a consultant at The Lewin Group. Mr. Rousseau received his Master's in Public Health from Yale University's School of Medicine, and his Bachelor of Arts in political science from Yale College.

DeAnna earned a MSc in Herbal Medicine from the Maryland University of Integrative Health and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a BS in Psychology from Howard University, completing her Post Baccalaureate Training at the National Institute of Mental Health within the Laboratory of Cellular & Molecular Regulation. DeAnna is the Chair of the DC Board of Nutrition & Dietetics and is also a Licensed Dietitian-Nutritionist and Certified Nutrition Specialist. DeAnna most recently served as policy advisor and public health Nutritionist for Terrific, Inc., a nonprofit housing and human services organization, where she advised DC policy for managing chronic disease for low income, at-risk, senior citizens.

Debra Brink

Eva Greenthal (she/her) oversees CSPI's federal food labeling work, leveraging the food label as a powerful public health tool to influence consumer and industry behavior. Eva also conducts research and supports CSPI's science-centered approach to advocacy as a member of the Science Department. Prior experience Prior to joining CSPI, Eva led a pilot evaluation of the nation's first hospital-based food pantry and worked on research initiatives related to alcohol literacy and healthy habits for young children. Before that, Eva served as a Program Coordinator for Let's Go! at Maine Medical Center and as an AmeriCorps VISTA Member at HealthReach Community Health Centers in Waterville, Maine. Eva holds a dual MS/MPH degree in Food Policy and Applied Nutrition from Tufts University and a BA in Environmental Studies from University of Michigan.

Giridhar Mallya

Giridhar Mallya, MD, MSHP, is a public health physician and health policy expert who serves as Senior Policy Officer for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. In this role, he develops strategy in emerging health and social policy arenas; identifies and supports people, organizations, and networks that advance equity-promoting policies; informs Foundation-wide policy agenda-setting; and liaises with city, state, and federal leaders. Dr. Mallya was previously Director of Policy and Planning for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. He is a board certified family physician and an adjunct assistant professor of family medicine and community health at the University of Pennsylvania.

As a policy associate, Irene Ulrich (she/her) supports CSPI's scientific integrity initiative and advocates for transparency and evidence-based policymaking. Prior experience Prior to joining CSPI, Irene worked as a clinical pharmacist and program director in a large family medicine clinic. In this role, she applied evidence-based medicine practices to patient care, advocated for pharmacists in public health programs, and conducted practice-based research. Irene is also passionate about teaching and holds an adjunct appointment with the University of North Carolina (UNC) Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Irene received her PharmD degree from UNC in 2012 and her MPH from the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health in 2023.

Jake has several years of experience as an organizer and advocate working with displaced persons as a leader of the Wesleyan Refugee Project. He holds a B.A. in Government and Molecular Biology & Biochemistry from Wesleyan University.

James Kincheloe

James leads CSPI campaigns whose goals are to minimize threats to public health from food safety issues and animals in the food system. Prior experience James's work prior to joining CSPI spanned the spectrum of the food production system and included production animal medicine as a dairy veterinarian, international agriculture development, and infectious disease research and response system analysis. He earned a BS in Animal Science and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis, and a Master of Public Health at the University of Minnesota. He also completed a residency in public health at the University of Minnesota.

Jane Schmitz, PhD, is currently an advisor to the From Now On Fund and an experienced public health instructor and researcher. Dr. Schmitz served as Adjunct Professor at Occidental College, Clinical Assistant Professor and curriculum advisor at the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine. She was an Emerson National Hunger Fellow at the Congressional Hunger Center, a Program Officer at USDA's Food and Nutrition Services in the Western Region and a US Peace Corps volunteer in Niger, West Africa. Lisa Mankofsky (she/her/hers) leads CSPI's class action litigation, administrative lawsuits, and negotiations. CSPI's class action litigation challenges deceptive advertising and labeling practices concerning food and supplements. In order to protect the health and safety of consumers, we also litigate under the Administrative Procedure Act against governmental agencies where the agency has unlawfully withheld or unreasonably delayed agency action; and/or where the agency acted in an arbitrary and capricious way, abused its discretion, and/or acted unlawfully. The Litigation Department also engages in negotiations with food and dietary supplement manufacturers seeking agreements to correct deceptive advertising and labeling practices.

Lynn Silver

Lynn Silver, MD, MPH, is a pediatrician, public health researcher and advocate, currently Senior Advisor at the Public Health Institute and Clinical Professor at the University of California San Francisco. She focuses on policies to prevent noncommunicable and its risk factors, including unhealthy diet, at home and globally. Silver was Assistant Health Commissioner of New York City under Mayor Bloomberg, leading the groundbreaking team that launched the nation's first trans fat ban, calorie labeling law, and the National Salt Reduction Initiative, and worked on the Berkeley team that passed the nation's first soda tax.
