Carly Perryman

Carly is a Research Study Assistant in the UW READi Lab, working on the RISE and Sprout studies. Born and raised in Merced, California, she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Prior to joining the lab, Carly worked as a Certified Behavior Technician providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services for children diagnosed with ASD. Carly loves to read, travel, and find new favorite food spots in Seattle. She aspires to pursue a Ph.D. in clinical psychology in the future.

Carol A. Schubert

Carol joined the UW READi Lab in October, 2020 in the role of research coordinator (part-time). Carol is a recent transplant to the PNW, coming from a long (30+ years) career with the Law and Psychiatry Program at Western Psychiatric Hospital, part of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She has extensive experience in all aspects of field research ranging from primary data collection to study design, analysis and dissemination. These experiences have been gained in the context of over 10 distinct longitudinal research studies that have (primarily) examined the link between behavioral health disorders and violence, the development of juveniles in the justice system, and the impact of sanctions and interventions for justice-involved youth. She is excited for the opportunity to transition to autism research and to join the UW READi Lab team! Carol has a B.A. in Psychology from Wheeling Jesuit University and a M.P.H. from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring the beautiful PNW and spending time with her three young grandchildren.

Born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Kent, Washington, she received her bachelor's degree in Psychology at the University of Washington. Prior to joining the lab, Clara was a student intern at the Seattle Children's Autism Center and worked as a Certified Behavior Technician providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services for children diagnosed with ASD. In her spare time, Clara enjoys taking dance classes, reading, and trying out new food spots around Seattle. She is excited to be a part of the UW READi Lab team and aspires to pursue a PhD in clinical child psychology in the future.

Dr. Wendy Stone

Dr. Wendy Stone is a Professor of Psychology and Director of the UW READi Lab. She joined the UW Department of Psychology in May 2010, after spending the previous 20+ years in the Department of Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University. At Vanderbilt, she founded and directed the Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD), which has a threefold mission of research, clinical services, and community outreach. Dr. Stone has conducted research in early detection and intervention of autism for over 30 years, on topics that include: (1) identifying early markers and developmental processes associated with diverse outcomes in infants at high familial risk for autism; (2) evaluating the efficacy and effectiveness of autism-specialized interventions in clinical and community settings; and (3) developing community models for expediting access to early screening and specialized intervention for toddlers with autism features. She has received federal funding for her research since 1993, and has authored numerous scientific papers on the early identification, assessment, treatment, and follow-up of young children with autism. Her research with young children led to the development of the Screening Tool for Autism in Toddlers (STAT) and a book for parents entitled, Does My Child Have Autism? She serves on the editorial board of Autism Research and has participated in numerous work groups and review panels for NIH and autism foundations. Since 2009, she has been a member of the Autism Advisory Panel for Sesame Street's Autism Initiative, contributing to the development of Julia, the new Muppet with autism. Dr. Stone is committed to translational science and enhancing knowledge and service capacity within community settings. Her current research projects involve working with primary care health providers and early intervention providers to increase their knowledge of the early signs of autism and promote their use of evidence-based screening and intervention for toddlers when autism is suspected. Jill Locke

Jill Locke, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University of Washington (UW) and core faculty at the UW School Mental Health Assessment Research and Training Center and research affiliate at the Seattle Children's Autism Center. Dr. Locke received her doctorate in Education from UCLA in 2010 and completed her postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania in 2013. Her research focuses on the: 1) social functioning of children with autism; 2) identification and implementation of evidence-based practices for individuals with autism in real-world settings; and 3) factors that predict successful implementation of evidence-based practices in schools. She is currently the principal investigator of an NIMH K01 Career Development Award that uses mixed methods to examine the individual and organizational factors that predict successful implementation and sustainment of evidence-based practices for children with autism in public schools. Most recently, Dr. Locke was the PI of a pilot grant to study the feasibility and acceptability of a peer-mentoring program, MOSSAIC, for college students with ASD and the co-PI of a pilot grant that launched the PREP for IT program focused on career development and employment for college students with ASD interested in IT. Her research has highlighted the importance of collaborating with community stakeholders such as public schools and the reality of working within the constraints of large, publicly funded systems, their timeline (e.g. school calendar year), and with their personnel.

Karla Uroza

Karla is a Research Study Assistant at the UW READi Lab. Karla will be working on the RISE study as a bilingual (English/Spanish) caregiver liaison. Karla was born in San Diego and raised in Tijuana, Mexico. At 15 years old she immigrated to San Diego where she completed her bachelor's degree in Psychology at San Diego State University. Prior to joining the lab, Karla worked as a preschool teacher for Navy child development centers. During her undergraduate career, she worked as Registered Behavioral Technician providing ABA services for children diagnosed with ASD and other developmental disabilities. In her spare time Karla enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending time outdoors. She aspires to earn a Master's in Applied Child & Adolescent Psychology in the future.
