CRY - Key Persons

Aaron James Dixon

Aaron James Dixon born on the 23rd September 1987. Aaron was a much longed for child and I loved him beyond words the first moment I saw him. Aaron was such a beautiful, happy and contented baby. He grew into a very handsome, cheeky, fun-loving boy. Aaron was loved by everyone he met and he always Aaron Dixon Since 2018, the screening of these athletes has been funded by the Aaron Dixon Memorial Fund and delivered in partnership with the English Institute of Sport (EIS). "It was following the tragic death of Harry Faulkner - aged 18 when he died suddenly whilst playing squash - that I became aware of CRY and the amazing work that they do; and it was something I wanted to be a part of. I'm delighted to have become a CRY Patron. I feel very strongly about helping promote, support and spread the word and to help create more awareness for young people to get tested. No family should have to go though the tragic loss of losing their child so young and I'm honoured to be working with CRY to help in any way I can."

Andrew Triggs-Hodge

"CRY used to be an organisation that I thought would only touch a few people and that I would be lucky enough not to be one of those. In 2008 a good friend died without warning on a rugby pitch, he was extraordinarily fit and in his 50s; his son was playing in the same game. Ewan Adamson leaves behind his family. In 2009 another good friend and fellow rower - again without warning - died on the rowing machine while warming up. Scott Rennie was in his early 20s, fit and strong and vying for a slot in the GB rowing team, but was denied his chance. Both leave a big hole without them and if there was a chance that an organisation like CRY could have forewarned their fate, then their deaths may have been avoided. I hope that CRY go from strength to strength and I hope to commit as much as I can to help this."

My darling brother Barry was 28. It was the last game of the season for Rayners Lane FC, the team he had played for since he was 17. That so many healthy young people die from this silent syndrome is tragic. CRY is working hard to protect our young people with their programs for research and prevention. "Howard English was a friend who was an amazing guy and an outstanding rugby player. The ultimate Bon Viveur. It was a truly shocking moment when he died suddenly during one of our rugby games. When someone dies in your arms like that on the side of a rugby pitch it is not something you ever forget. It was tragic beyond belief when Howard's death was compounded by the death a decade later of his son Sebastian, whilst playing rugby just like his Dad. No-one knew that the condition that had killed Howard could be genetic. CRY's screening programme is fantastic and it is good news that they are now going to be screening our young rugby players. In Italy they have compulsory testing of athletes and it seems so patently obvious that we ought to be doing this too. As a Patron of CRY I want to do all I can to help promote their programme."
