Human Service Options, established in 1979, is a private agency that has extensive experience with both the start-up and operation of community residences and cooperative apartments for individuals with intellectual disabilities, behavioral challenges and multi-diagnosed individuals. Serving approximately 112 individuals, HSO's residences range from four to five person homes and one to two-person cooperative apartments with some staffing support. Each residence provides a wide range of programs to address the needs of each person living in the home... Human Service Options maintains that the mere placement of individuals in community residences is not community membership and integration. But believes that membership and integration occur only when individuals become part of the community at large by active participation in community activities and the ongoing use of community resources.
