A regional sportswriter for 25-plus years, Combs currently serves in the role of sports editor for the Elizabethton Star. Following a seven-month break from the newspaper business, Combs was hired by the Johnson City Press to work as a sportswriter - a position he held for just over 4 1/2 years. A Carter County sports historian, Combs is a 1988 graduate of Elizabethton High.
