LAHRK - Key Persons
Allison completed her Masters degree in City Planning from the University of Manitoba and has a bachelor degree in Political Science and Environmental Science from the University of Winnipeg. Allison's research has been in the field of participatory processes including evaluations and planning. She is currently completing course work to receive recognition from the Professional Standards Board as a Registered Professional Planner. Allison has extensive planning experience working in both the private and public planning sectors. She has worked publicly, as a a community planner for the Province of Manitoba in Southeast Manitoba and privately for Bluestem Developments. Throughout her planning career she has drafted and been involved in numerous Development Plans, Zoning By-law and Secondary plan processes. Her work in the planning field has included land use planning in both the urban and and rural context. Allison has experience working with councils, conducting technical reviews for livestock expansions, and hosting public information meetings and public hearings. In 2014 she started Bluestem Developments, a private consultation service focusing on land use planning, site feasibility analysis, subdivision design/process assistance, and public engagement. Her projects include designing subdivisions, drafting Development Plans, Reviewing Development Plans drafting planning related documents such as secondary plans. In 2017 Allison joined LAHRK and has worked on a number of projects, from drafting community housing plans, to creating evaluation plans to strategic plans. She has been actively involved in community campaigning in local elections, is a member of the soccer field board and the Community Centre Board, 4-H, Equine Therapy, minor hockey and conducts web maintenance for three different organizations. Allison recently helped establish Cloud 9 Equine Therapy including developing board governance and organization.
Heather has a Bachelor degree from the University of Winnipeg and a Diploma in Financial Accounting from the Certified General Accountants Association of Manitoba. She has been a community organizer for over two decades, working as a volunteer on various projects including the University of Winnipeg Student Association, the Youth Activist Retreat, the Workers Organizing Resource Center, Mayworks, and as a board chair for the Fort-Rouge Co-op Day Nursery; she is a founding member of the Winnipeg homeschool co-op. Heather has a strong background in community economic development and co-ops. In 2002 she was one of the founding members of Organic Planet Worker Co-op and went on to be involved in the CED network of Winnipeg and the Canadian Worker Co-op Federation. Heather also has experience in writing, having published articles in Mothering Magazine, Reader's Digest and Geez magazine as well as writing curriculum for the province of Manitoba.
Kerniel has a Masters in Public Administration, and bachelor in Conflict Resolution Studies. He is a contract instructor at the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba. He is also the Program Coordinator for the Inner-CIty Work Study program at the University Winnipeg, the administrative manager at Kindermusik Discovery and a consultant in the Community Economic Development field and the nonprofit sector. He has designed and conducted program evaluations, community research, teaching curricula, community workshops, focus groups, policy development, business plans and sustainability plans. Kerniel is a founder of Bluestem Housing co-op and has worked with many other housing and co-op housing groups. He is engaged in neighbourhood development and housing issues.
